I have my Deco x68 plugged into my modem with a cat5 cable. If I connect to my modem's wifi directly and run speedtest.net I get 334Mbps. If I connect to the Deco wifi I get 92Mbps speed. Both tests are run with a laptop less than one meter away from the modem and the Deco. Why is the Deco so much slower?

I don't have much experience with setting up a mesh, so all suggestions welcome.

Hi, have you tried replacing a new Ethernet cable to connect the ISP modem router to Deco X68?

-It is also suggested to connect the ISP modem to another Ethernet port of the main Deco X68.

It seems like the internet connection speed between the ISP modem and the main Deco X68 is capped at 100m/s.

 

Please also check the QOS settings on the Deco App to make sure it is disabled or set to 1000mbps download/upload.

 

By the way, may I know how long you have had Deco?

I tried a new cable and different port. Same result.

My ISP has now sorted out my internet connection and I am now getting over 740Mbps, it's even spiked to 790 a couple of times. But the speeds I'm getting from the X68 hasn't changed much. It tends to be around 95Mbps most of the time, but it has reached 130Mbps on occasion, so I don't think it can be capped at 100Mbps.

Tried changing the QOS to 750 and 50. It didn't seem to make any difference. It was disabled before I changed it.

Iv'e had the Decos for a while now, over a year I guess. I have four Deco E4 units around the house and the X68 in the garage next to the modem. Geographically, the garage is under the house, and there is an E4 almost directly above X86. The rest of the E4s are on the same level with some walls in between but not very far apart. Twelve meters max.

@David-TP, I tried changing the QOS to 1000/1000. I'm still getting around 130Mbps on wifi from the x68. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.

Could you please try to temporarily remove the four Deco E4 units from the Deco APP, leave the main Deco X68 only, then power restart the Deco X68 once to check whether there is any difference in the network speed?

 

Have you ever tested the Ethernet connection speed directly from the main Deco X68?

By the way, can I have the current firmware version of the Deco X68?

  @David-TP I did as you suggested, removed the four E4s and tried again. I got some strangely anomalous results.

  • Connecting directly to the modem with a cat5 cable - 154Mbps
  • Connecting to the X68 with wifi and all E4s removed - 363Mbps (!!)
  • Connecting directly the the modem's wifi - 285Mbps
  • Connecting to the X68 with a cat5 cable (i.e. modem -> cat5 -> X68 -> cat5 -> laptop) - 146Mbps (with the E4s all removed I'm assuming this is what you meant by testing the ethernet speed from the X68?

 

First thing, my 740Mbps from the modem seems to have evaporated... now much, much slower. Maybe it's the time of day, it's nearly 4pm Thursday afternoon here, so maybe the lines are busy. I'll try it again tonight around 11pm. 

 

Second, I don't understand how the X68 can be delivering a wifi speed twice as fast as it seems to be receiving from the modem. Unless the speed is fluctuating wildly in between tests. But I did them all multiple times with similar results. 

 

The current version is, according to the app, the latest. 1.2.5 Build 20240805 Rel. 75285 on the X68

The E4s are all 1.1.2 Build 20250226 Rel. 35508

As the wireless speed is almost the same when connecting to the ISP modem as well as the Deco X68. I think Deco X68 should work well.

For the wired speed, are you able to test with a new cable, cat 6 or cat6e might be better? I also think there might be something wrong with the negotiation speed of the NIC Ethernet card on the laptop. It is also suggested to check whether there is any new driver or system OS for upgrade.

I haven't got a cat6 cable so I'll have to get one. The laptop I'm using for testing actually isn't mine, it's a friends, but I can get her to update anything that needs updating. She hardly ever uses it so it could be needing an update. It's also Windows, which I know nothing about. I use Linux, and haven't used Windows since M$ stopped supporting Win7. Just tried a speedtest again from my PC, 92Mbps. It's 6am so shouldn't be as congested as 3pm I would have thought. :-\
