Friday
Model: Archer BE230
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20250718 rel.16043(4555)

I bought Archer BE230 today to replace a failed Apple Airport Extreme to act as wifi access point and ethernet switch essentially. I have native ipv6 connection with fixed /56 network of which a /64 is used for this LAN in addition to NATed fixed ipv4 handled by another router which is connected to Archer's WAN port and just want Archer to act as transparently as possible so I use it in access point mode.

This mostly works fine, but I noticed ipv6 NDP multicast ff02 packets don't get bridged to wifi but do to ethernet so my wifi clients don't get ipv6 addresses assigned. I have another wifi access point (Google Nest Wifi) also working in bridged mode connected to Archer's LAN ethernet and if I connect to it, I get ipv6 address assigned correctly, but if I connect to Archer's wifi directly and monitor the traffic with Wireshark, no NDP packets get responses. Is this a known issue or is there something I can do?

Hello @jpaana ,

Welcome to our community.

May I know if your network topology diagram is as follows:

Main router---(wan)BE230 AP mode(lan)---Google Nest Wi-Fi AP mode)))((( clients

(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )

Is the Bridge mode that you mentioned the AP mode on both the Archer BE230 and Google Nest Wi-Fi?

Have you tried setting the BE230 to wireless router mode for comparison?

We would like to escalate your case to the support engineers, who will follow up. If you are willing to conduct further analysis, please check your inbox and respond.

@Joseph-TP Thanks for the quick response! Yes, your topology is correct and both Archer and Google Nest Wifi are in AP (bridged/non-routing) mode. The main router (MikroTik RB5009UG+S+) also has other wired clients as does the Archer, and those don't seem to have issues with multicast packets / ipv6. I noticed that also ipv4 MDNS packets (hostname.local resolving) don't get passed to/from Archer Wifi so that doesn't work either, but do work from Google Nest Wifi, the same behavior as with ipv6 NDP packets. So it looks like all multicast packets are filtered / not passed on.
