Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.1 |Build 20250729 rel 73566

Hi, I have purchased two Archer AX17 routers. I set up the first one as the main router and the second one as a satellite.

Even though both devices are connected via an Ethernet cable (twisted pair), the management panel still shows a Wi-Fi icon for the connection type. I have tried plugging the cable into both the WAN port and the LAN ports on the satellite router, but it fails to detect the wired connection.

The routers are located two floors apart, so the Wi-Fi signal is very weak—which is exactly why I am using a cable. I want to ensure they use an Ethernet Backhaul rather than a wireless connection.

What I have tried so far:

  • Performed a factory reset on both devices.

  • Updated to the latest firmware (downloaded directly from the TP-Link website and re-installed).

Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far. The satellite still insists on connecting via Wi-Fi. Any advice on what might be wrong?

Hi,

Not all EasyMesh routers made by TP-Link support Ethernet backhaul. The Archer AX17 might be one of those that do not support it.

In general, only the models and hardware versions listed in the first post of this https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/593722 thread support EasyMesh via Ethernet backhaul.
