The past two nights, the cameras have been able to upload to the cloud from 3am to 8am.

It's like Optus unblocks access for a couple of hours per night. Has anyone else had this with their devices?

@Plew Yes, a few days ago I started having issues accessing tapo devices - cameras, smart switches weren't working fully, I've had "local only" messages on devices attached to my H500 hub, messages in the smart actions saying my hub is offline when it's clearly online locally but not contacting the cloud - it's been driving me crazy.

As you have, I also noticed that for the past 2 nights, everything came back to life at 3am (Brisbane, Optus NBN) only to all be problematic again when I woke up.

Even just now, to recover my password for this forum, I got timeouts and errors trying to do so - accounts3.tplinkcloud.com/reset/v1?lang=en_us&email=xxx&region_code=AU was unreachable with ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

In order to reset my password (xxx replaced my info) I had to follow the link emailed to my on my phone with WiFi disabled to avoid Optus NBN. I have also found that my H500 will go online (status light goes solid) when connecting via a hotspot on my phone.

I am also unable to remotely access my router from my phone when not on WiFi, something that usually works perfectly. It's also a tplink product. It certainly seems that in some way, Optus or the NBN have managed to block something to do with tplink or whomever hosts their cloud.

If you have any success finding someone at Optus to explain all this to, please do update this thread!

@StuartF Hi this is what Optus sent me

Thank you for doing that and I do appreciated it. As per checking here on my end I can see that the recent firmware update on the Ultra WiFi Gen 2 has changed how the modem handles:
- 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi broadcasting
- Device isolation
- Firewall rules
- UPnP and multicast traffic
- Smart device pairing protocols

Tapo cameras rely heavily on:
- 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi
- Local network discovery
- Cloud communication through specific ports

When the modem update alters these settings, the cameras fail to pair or go offline.

To also help you get you CCTV device work again here what you will be needing to do on your end:

On Ultra WiFi Gen 2:
- Ensure 2.4 GHz is ON
- Ensure SSID is visible
- Ensure band steering is not forcing devices to 5 GHz

And to help you checked on here's how:

Step 1: Login to WebGUI

--Login to the modem's WebGUI, by entering http://192.168.0.1 into a web browser on a device connected to the modem
--Enter the Password located on the sticker on the base of the modem and select Login

Step 2: Navigate to My Wi-Fi

--Select My Wi-Fi at the top of the page to navigate to the modem's WiFi settings.

Step 3: Change Band Steering setting

--The Enable Band Steering setting will show the modem's current Band Steering Setting (ON or OFF)
Toggle the setting:

OFF: To disable Band Steering. This will create a secondary "_5Ghz" WiFi name (SSID) where connected devices will only use 5GHz. Other devices can connect to the standard WiFi name (SSID) and will receive a 2.4GHz connection

ON: To enable Band Steering. This will enable a single WiFi name (SSID) for all devices to use. Devices will maintain an optimal connection by roaming between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, depending on their distance from the modem and device preferences

Step 4: Confirm change

--The page will now display your current WiFi settings.
--From this page, you can also modify basic WiFi settings, such as the WiFi names and passwords

Optus are for whatever reason blocking or limiting access to tplink cloud servers / services which messes with some devices, I have an open case with them now, have done my best to explain what's happening, the 3am return for a few hours, my inability to recover my password while using Optus NBN, worked fine via mobile data, my inability to remotely administer my tplink router etc. Everything points to an optus vs tplink issue, if this was more broad then this forum would likely be way more busy than it is, the amount of people saying they are with Optus makes it more than one off coincidences.

  @StuartF

All my tp link stuff went offline Xmas day. Exactly the same happens devices alive from 3am to 8am then offline. Cameras, doorbell, hub and sensors all no good on Optus NBN (amaysim) working fine on local wifi but with notifications not working properly. Hotspot the phone and they are as good as gold. Amaysim support useless.

@Jascro I have the same problem, orange light on my H200 hub, no remote access. Problem only started a few days ago. However last night just after 3am Sydney time the Tapo hub light turned green and remote access back on again. Gave me the chance to re-pair my doorbell camera with the hub, so at least that's working again. This morning the hub was showing orange again, remote access lost ... again! I have an Optus NBN modem/router and I suspect the problem is with a recent Optus firmware update perhaps? When I change networks to my tethered phone the hub light turns green. Change back to the Optus modem network and the hub light turns orange again.

Monday 29th Dec 2025 - everything started working around 1am, earlier than the previous two days 3am. Tapo H500 hub connected to their servers / cloud, my tplink router could contact the cloud and my password reset link, while expired, also started working again in that it could contact the server. Around 7.10 to 7.15 am, things started becoming flaky, by 7.20am everything was once again offline unable to contact tplink servers / cloud as with previous days.

I'm with Optus NBN HFC in Brisbane

Modem is a CM8200B Arris Touchstone DOCSIS 3.1 HFC cable modem

I have a Sagemcom F@ST 3864V2 HP router (see below)

Router is Mercusys MR90X made by TP-Link

The reason I don't think it's local firmware is that I'm not using the sagemcom for anything other than landline via NAT forwarding to it, my main routers have always been Netgear before this Mercusys one. I can literally turn the sagemcom off and my internet is unaffected so it's in no way altering or blocking my routes to the tplink servers / clouds etc. Just to double check, I've turned it off now and 15 mins later all routes to tplink cloud servers are still broken while the rest of the internet seems perfectly fine.

I do remember losing internet twice on Christmas day though, the CM8200B had flashing lights, once pretty early and then mid afternoon or so. I don't know if it's possible to check if it has been updated, I've never tried to interface with it in an way at all, it just sits there and works (most of the time).

My MR90X hasn't had any firmware updates so no blame there. From the amount of people saying they're on Optus, all arrows point to them. What I really don't get though is how and why it starts working again early morning only to be all dead again by 8am.

accounts3 (dot) tplinkcloud (dot) com - the server that won't respond to reset my password (unless it's 3am or I use my mobile data)

aps1-deviceweb (dot) mercusyscloud (dot) com - the cloud server my router tried to contact to set up a "Mercusys ID", again works at 3am etc perfectly fine

Interestingly, I believe both of these are hosted by amazonws (dot) com

Please, if you have anything to add do so. I've pointed Optus to this thread a few times now, hopefully, eventually, the right person that can understand what's happening and either fix it or send it onto someone that can fix whatever is going on finds themselves here. We're not imagining it, it's not a shared delusion, something is broken and it appears to be Optus related.

  @StuartF

TAPO cameras have been great.

Have the same problem with optus.

All cameras off line. But work early hours of the morning then cut out.

My other property has the same cameras and work great.

But they are on aussie broadband nbn NOT OPTUS.

  @Jascro

It's 100% optus.

Have tapo cameras on another network (different property) and everything works perfectly with tapo app.
