iPad 2025 not migrating between P9 access points
I've got five Deco P9 units all running 1.2.1 Build 20240716 Rel. 60900. They're all connected via Ethernet and operating in access point mode. Fast roaming and beamforming are both enabled. DHCP etc is handled by Ubiquity EdgeRouter.
What I've noticed since getting a new iPad (2025, 11th generation, A16) is that as I move around the house the iPad's WiFi connection doesn't automatically reconnect to the best Deco unit. The connection still works but really slow - one bar shown on iPad and in deco app. If I turn WiFi off and on again on the iPad that gets me a good connection again (full cone of bars).
I don't remember this being a problem with my previous iPad (iPad air 2019) and don't notice the problem on my iPhone (16e) though that might be masked by the phone using mobile data.
Both phone and iPad are set to use a static private MAC address for this WiFi network. They're both running iOS/ iPadOS 26.2 and the old iPad was running iPadOS 26.x.
Other devices such as laptops seem fine but I don't wander around the house with them so I'm not sure that tells us anything. My partner doesn't report any problems with WiFi connection on her iPad but she generally always uses it in the same place so wouldn't expect to see any issues with migrating between access points.
Any suggestions on things I could try to improve/investigate this?
Thanks
Paul
