Hi TP-Link Community,

I’m using a TP-Link XC220-G3v V2 (Aginet GPON/ONT router) on a BSNL FTTH connection in Tamil Nadu, India.
The router was working earlier, but internet stopped suddenly a few days ago. The local operator is saying it could be a “firmware issue” and suggested changing firmware. They also mentioned that they officially support only certain ONTs (Xyrotech / Netlink / Huawei) for troubleshooting.

Before making any changes, I would like some technical clarity.

My questions

  1. Are there any known firmware compatibility issues with XC220-G3v V2 on BSNL FTTH (especially in Tamil Nadu) that can cause sudden internet loss?

  2. If the router’s GPON state is not reaching O5 (Registered), does that usually indicate:

    • a firmware problem on XC220-G3v, or

    • a BSNL provisioning / ONT authorization issue (serial / LOID / OLT profile)?

  3. Has anyone experienced BSNL or local operators stopping third-party ONTs after OLT upgrades or backend changes, even if they worked earlier?

  4. If this is not a firmware issue, would purchasing and using a TP-Link XX530v (instead of XC220-G3v) realistically solve the problem — or would it face the same BSNL authorization limitations?
(I have not tried XX530v on this BSNL line yet.)

Goal

To understand whether this is:

  • a real XC220-G3v firmware issue, or

  • a BSNL / LCO provisioning or policy issue,
and whether buying XX530v would genuinely help or not.

Country: India (Tamil Nadu)
Model: XC220-G3v V2

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hello @Anbu

As far as I can confirm, there isn't any known compatibility issue with BSNL FTTH.

As you can see DrShirish has successfully configured his XC220-G3v v2 here.

There are ISPs that may limit their line to certain ONTs, so if they confirm they only support specific brands, I'm afraid that is true.sad

@Anbu BSNL no longer accepts devices without the TEC certifications. Only TEC certified devices are accepted on their systems to work reliably. Earlier it was not an issue, but now it is. Every other brands you mentioned are TEC certified and will work with BSNL. TP-Link has no such TEC certifications in any of their ONTs in India, so it won't work/work reliably even if it did. Firmware is fine, it's just they way it's being accepted.
