Hi everyone,

 

I recently purchased a TP-Link Archer router that supports EasyMesh.

I am trying to set up a mesh network with my TL-WPA7617 Powerline kit (AV1000).

 

My issue is that the current "OneMesh" implementation forces the backhaul connection via Wi-Fi.

Since the units are far apart (different floors), the Wi-Fi signal between them is weak/unstable.

The system completely ignores the solid Powerline connection (PLC) available via the electrical wiring.

 

I see on the official list that the TL-WPA7617 is marked as "EasyMesh Planned".

Does anyone have information on when this firmware update will be released?

I am really waiting for the Ethernet/Powerline Backhaul support to stop relying on the weak Wi-Fi link between the nodes.

Thanks for the clear confirmation, @Joseph-TP.

 

It is disappointing to learn that the OneMesh protocol is designed to ignore a stable, wired Powerline connection in favor of a weak Wi-Fi signal.

It defeats the very purpose of buying a Powerline (PLC) kit, which is usually installed precisely because the Wi-Fi signal between rooms is too poor to be reliable.

Consequently, the OneMesh feature is currently useless for Powerline adapters in real-world scenarios.

 

Technically, ignoring the PLC link seems less like a hardware limitation and more like a software or product segmentation choice.

Basically, the hardware is capable, but the software prevents it from working intelligently.

 

I will wait for the EasyMesh update, but in the meantime, I have to disable OneMesh and configure roaming manually to get decent speeds.

Please forward this feedback to the R&D team: allowing Ethernet/PLC Backhaul should be the #1 priority for Powerline products.

Regarding the progress of EasyMesh support, we do not have a firmware update schedule, so we are unable to provide a specific update time.

 

The backhaul connection between OneMesh devices is typically established via Wi-Fi. Even if your powerline adapters support OneMesh, the mesh backhaul will default to Wi-Fi rather than utilizing the powerline (PLC) connection for device-to-device communication.

 

The mesh connection will rely on Wi-Fi, which may not be ideal if your devices are far apart and the Wi-Fi signal is weak. If you require a more stable backhaul, you might consider using products with Ethernet backhaul.

Also waiting for this support for a very long time. Seems not so much effort is put into powerline firmware development vs routers, but hopping something appears sooner or later.

If for some reason a beta firmware is available sometime sooner, pretty sure we are available to test it.
