Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.10 Build 20260212 Rel 59811

Dear all,

My Deco is behind an ISP modem and router, which is put in bridge mode. (ISP = Belgium, Proximus). I used the WAN MAC address of the main Deco (which should be device MAC +1 Hex). ISP confirms it is in bridge mode.

Deco is in router mode + Dynamic IP. The Deco is however still receiving the internal IP instead of the WAN IP. (In More > Internet Connection). One strange thing is in Deco Lab > Wifi Assistant > public IP lookup the correct public IP is shown. Does this get its info different than the Internet Connection settings?

Not receiving the WAN IP in the Deco gives me issues with for example DDNS (not working) and certificates on NAS. "Normal" internet use is working.

Does anyone have an idea please?

Thank you!

J

Hi, can I have the model number of the ISP-provided gateway?

Have you removed the main Deco and connected a wired laptop to the ISP router, then set the MAC address on the laptop to check whether the laptop can get the public IP from the ISP router?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP Hi David, thanks for your reply. I see more people reporting this issue with the same ISP. So might be an issue there. For now I removed the ISP router, which also works, but was not my preferred option to do.

I do have another question: I notice the Deco BE65 going to 100% CPU when it's the main router during the internet speed test (via the app). Are the newer models more robust CPU wise? I might need a 3rd node so that might change what I'll buy :p

Hi, thanks for the update.

I think the CPU of Deco BE65 should be powerful enough. Does the CPU only spike to 100% when running a speedtest? When the test finishes, will the CPU usage drop to the normal level?

If you're looking for a higher model, Deco BE85 would be a good choice.

Best regards.

@David-TP During regular use the CPU is quite low. (right now 1-10%)

But as soon as I start the "Test Internet Speed" functionality via the app, it shoots straight to +90%

Afterwards it indeed drops.

This is awkward as previously (with the ISP router in the mix) this phenomenon was not the case. Performance in the app was then the same as actual performance via for example speedtest.net.

Another strange thing: when just running the test through speedtest.net, the CPU stays normal and thus I do see the actual expected performance (+- 2.3 gbps)

Could this be a bug in the Deco app?

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

When you're available, if we add the ISP router back between the Deco and the modem, after running "Test Internet speed", will the CPU usage remain ~10%?

Would it be possible that the CPU load is not refreshing?

I checked with the engineer, and he explained that the speed test requires generating/parsing a large volume of data packets (e.g., multi-threaded testing, high-frequency packet transmission) within a short timeframe, leading to intensive CPU resource consumption. This unoptimized process forces the CPU to handle excessive traffic calculations, temporarily overwhelming its processing capacity.

By the way, please also refer to this link to help me submit the Deco App log: How to submit Deco APP log

Best regards.
