Model: Archer BE3600
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20260108 rel.68570(4555)

Hi. I have an external HDD linked to the USB port of the router which is supose to be 3.0 to make backups and access remotely. I'm using Samba to access that disk from my PC and the speed is very, very slow. I would expect 108/110 MB/s but maximum speed is around 38MB/s. Is this related to the Samba version (2.x) or is the USB port not really 3.0? If the problem is related to the processor or memory (It cannot handle Samba properly) how can this be resolved? The HDD I use, when connected directly to an USB port 3.0 of my PC, it handles 110 MB/s. Is there a way to solve this situation or do I have to buy another router. Backups at 38MB/s takes ages to perform. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Using FTP is not suitable for what I want in spite it works a little faster than SMB. I need to use SMB in order to have automatic backups from my devices in my network. I finally ended up solving the problem by enabling the SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support option in "Desabling or Enabling Windows features" and also by changing some Windows 11 security options. It's now transferring at 108 MB/s, which is the maximum capacity my network card supports. It look like the BE3600 memory is not enough and the processor as well to maintain speed without doing those changes in windows. Once again thank you for your help anyway.

Hello @Brasiport ,

Welcome to our community.

Here are some steps you can try:

1. Check your network connection:
Ensure a wired gigabit connection between your PC and router (using a Cat5e or higher Ethernet cable).

On your PC, open "Network Connections" and confirm the connection speed is 1.0 Gbps.

2. Try FTP:
Enable FTP service on your router and transfer files from your PC using an FTP client. Compare the FTP speeds to your desired speed.

Additionally, please collect your system log and backup file for further analysis. The tech team will likely reach out to you via email to continue troubleshooting. Please check your email inbox and confirm.

Glad you found a solution!

Just a heads up though — enabling SMB 1.0 has some serious known security vulnerabilities, and in my opinion TP-Link shouldn't be endorsing workarounds that require lowering Windows security settings to this level. Hopefully they'll address this properly in firmware. There's a related thread here if you're interested, which also has an alternative workaround (safer but still not great): [Bug] AX55 SLOW SMB throughput (3–4 MB/s) on Windows 11 unless SMB signing is disabled - Home Network Community
