Terrible 2.4Ghz Performance
Satellite unit on wired backhaul directly into main deco. Other satellite unit on Wifi backhaul. System is in AP mode (router functions are disabled)
System is great with 5Ghz WiFi but terrible with 2.4Ghz WiFi. My IPhone 16 has terrible latency (90ms+) and slow speeds (sometimes slower than 1Mbps) when connecting to 2.4GHz guest WiFi or 2.4GHz IOT Wifi even when sitting less than 3 feet from the main Deco XE75 base unit. No latency or speed problems when I connect to 5Ghz Wifi (or if I activate 5Ghz on either guest or IOT WiFi).
Various IOT devices are frequently showing as not connected - they connect and disconnect - and have poor performance on 2.4Ghz WiFI (the only option). Some of these devices connect to the base unit and some to satellite units but it doesn't seem to make a difference to connection problems. I have tried setting devices to connect to a specific Deco unit and I have turned off mesh technology for these devices. I have also confirmed that the system is using the latest firmware. Regardless, given my iPhone barely works on 2.4GHz sitting 3 feet from the base it is not surprising that IOT devices are having issues when sitting much farther away from satellite units.
I have spent hours on this and my only conclusion is that Deco included the 2.4Ghz WiFi as an afterthought and didn't think it was important and so it uses a substandard radio for that band.
Since the primary purpose of this system is to allow connection of various IOT devices (temperature and water sensors, sump pump alarms, keypad doorlocks, etc.), I'm at a loss other than dumping the Deco system and going to something else ... Perhaps Ubiquiti as I believe it provides much greater control and control over individual nodes (setting channel frequencies, bandwidth, etc.) albeit in something that is much less user friendly. Any other suggestions for a mesh system that would be similar to Deco but with properly functionion 2.4Ghz WiFi ?

Hi, I've left a message with a beta firmware for Deco XE75_V3. I think it would help to improve the 2.4GHz performance.
Please let me know how it works.
Best regards.

The property is on an acreage and that's the reason for the remote monitoring devices. Won't be able to get back out till later next week but will give this a try then.
Question: (1) If I install the beta firmware ... won't it just be overwritten by the next regular update and then I'll be back where I started? (2) I assume this will improve 2.4Ghz at some expense to 5Ghz (which I assume is why this is not part of the regular firmware stream)?
Sorry, would have replied in a PM but was unable to reply to the message I received from you.

Hi, the beta firmware has disabled the 2.4GHz Backhaul among Deco units and allows satellite units to use non-overlapping 2.4GHz channels for mobile clients.
Best regards.

I checked my Deco units and my XE75 Pro units are V2 (rather than V3) so I don't know if the firmware you messaged me will work with V2? I also have an X50 Ver.1 unit and an X50 Outdoor (no version shown) in the mesh.
Would you be able to message me the beta firmware for these three models and versions? Thanks

Hi, thank you very much for the update.
The beta firmware for Deco XE75_v3 also works for V2.
How about the firmware version of the Deco X50_V1? The latest firmware 1.8.0 supports Channel Selection.
-If you could set Deco X50_V1 as the main Deco, you will see the entry on the Deco App to change the channels; then the satellite units will sync the wireless settings from the main Deco.
If you still prefer using Deco XE75 as the main Deco, I'll leave a message with a similar beta firmware for Deco X50-outdoor.
Best regards.

I wanted to try setting the X50 unit to be the main unit but I am unable to get the Deco app to give me the option to change the main unit.
I am connected to the primary WiFi network (not the guest nor the IOT) but when I go to the network page in the app, the only options I get are "Reboot Network", "Change Network Owner" and "Delete Network". I do not get an option to "Set Main Deco".
I have tried using the system reboot from the app, I have tried unplugging and waiting 20 sec and then plugging the main unit back in to reboot it, I have confirmed that there is no VPN running on my phone while using the app but no matter what I try, I just do not get the option to set main deco unit.
Any ideas on how I change the main deco other than deleting the entire network and starting over with a new network ?

Hi, thanks for your time and patience.
You can remove the satellite Deco X50 from the Deco App first, and reset the satellite Deco X50 by holding the reset pinhole for 1 second only.
Then go to Deco App>“+” on the top right>"replace main Deco":
How to Change the Main Deco Unit- the 2nd case.

During process of readding the Deco X50 it became apparent that the reason I could not previously access the option to change the main Deco unit is that IOS on the iphone defaults apps to not having local network access so the Deco app was not recognizing my phone as being available on the local WiFi network even though it was. Once I changed this app setting (settings/apps/deco) then the option to change main units immediately appeared. Hopefully, this info helps anyone else who is having this same issue.
However, by this time I had already removed the X50 from the mesh network so I proceeded to add it back as the new main unit. The process failed a couple of times but eventually it was added back and became the new main unit. I see that I can change the channel that the WiFi network broadcasts on but I can only set one channel for all 2.4Ghz broadcasts for all of WiFi, Guest and IOT.
Unfortunately, that doesn't really make a difference as this setup is at a country acreage and the only WiFi signals present are from this Deco network. I think I had mentioned that in my original post. As a result, there is no conflict with any other third party wifi networks. I guess I had assumed that this firmware would allow each of the three different networks to have their own channel (to reduce interference between the deco units themselves) or perhaps each satellite could operate on a different channel but that is not the case (and after thinking about it, probably not possible)
Since making the X50 the main unit, the list of online clients has become flaky ... It shows clients as offline that I can actually access so they are not offline and it sometimes shows devices as wired, when they are WiFi; lastly, cameras hard wired to a satellite unit (that uses WiFi backhaul) always appeared as wired previously but now sometimes show up as connected and wired and sometimes show up as disconnected (when they are still connected as I can bring up the camera streams remotely). It just doesn't seem to be accurate in reporting the online clients - this is not an issue I had when the XE75Pro was the main unit as it was always reliable and accurate.
The fundamental problem is that Schlage Encode Doorlocks are randomly connecting and disconnecting (actually disconnecting) even though two of these (in outbuildings) are sitting within 20 feet and a direct line of site to satellite Deco units which are solidly connected. I have changed the connection settings to force connections to the close satellites and forced the connection to 2.4Ghz and turned off the mesh option but it hasn't helped.
Short of switching to another mesh system, I think I've hit a dead end with Deco. It's unfortunate as this is the 3rd Deco mesh system I've set up and this is the only one that has had these issues. However, it also has more satellites and more IOT devices than any of the other systems. I have also set up mesh system with a competing product line and had moved away from that product line since it was much more complicated to configure and manage (Deco is very user friendly and simple) but I guess when you run into problems, having that degree of control over the WiFi networks, Satellites and configuration options does provide more flexibility to resolve issues.

In reviewing the full thread, when you provided the Beta firmware you said "Hi, the beta firmware has disabled the 2.4GHz Backhaul among Deco units and allows satellite units to use non-overlapping 2.4GHz channels for mobile clients.". Subseuqently, you suggested that I could just make the X50 the main unit and it would allow channel selection ...
I did this but the X50 does not allow any option to use non overlapping 2.4Ghz channels on satellite units. Can you confirm that the Beta firmware does actually allow this ... if the beta firmware has this additional functionality - and it won't just get overriden by a future firmware update - I would give it one last try by changing the main unit back to the XE75Pro and then installing the beta firmware so that I can run each satellite on it's own channel ...
Please confirm ... thanks

Hi, thank you for getting back to me. It would be very helpful to know that "Local WiFi Network" permission might cause the disappearance of "set main Deco".
The manual channel changes on the official Deco X50_1.8.0 would apply to all Deco units, and it can't make Deco units use different 2.4GHz channels. While the 1.3.0 beta on Deco XE75 only adds the High capacity mode, which disables the 2.4GHz Backhaul among Deco units by default. If you keep the "Channel Selection" on Deco X50_1.8.0 to "Auto" and only set "Wireless network mode" to "High capacity mode", which should have the same effect on the 1.3.0 beta of Deco XE75:
Channel Selection and Wireless Network Mode
And it's really worth a try to install the 1.3.0 beta on the Deco XE75 and set it back as the main Deco.
Wait for your reply.
Best regards.
