Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hi, I have an Archer C6 v3.20 router, FW 1.1.1 build 20250716. I'm trying to set up OpenVPN. I don't have a public IP, so I use tp-link DDNS. I tried TCP and UDP. In the router settings, I saved, generated a certificate, downloaded the configuration file, then rewrote the IP to DDNS. I set up port triggering. But OVPN doesn't work - the client doesn't connect. I can ping the DDNS address, but port 1194 is closed after the port open test. I've tried a thousand restarts, other ports, but with no result - I must be missing something, the VPN is essential for me. I also tried PPTP VPN, but with the same result. When I'm on the same network and give the internal server address, I connect. So the problem is in opening/forwarding the port, but I don't know where to set what :-( In the NAT-> Port triggering settings I have Triggering port 1194, BOTH protocol, external port 1194, BOTH protocol, ALG - enable PPTP Passtrough. I'm stuck and angry.

There is a Cisco EPC3925 in front of the router, I also forwarded the port in it, the Firewall is disabled in it, PPTP passthrough is enabled.

Hi,

DDNS would be used if you had a public IP address that changes frequently.

But if your ISP doesn't assign a public IP address to your Cisco EPC3925 in the first place, then DDNS is useless.

Your only chance to make this work is to contact your ISP and ask them to assign a public IPv4 address to your Cisco cable modem. Then forward the port used by the VPN from the Cisco cable modem to the Archer C6.

@woozle Thanks for the answer. I'm a bit disappointed, I have a public IP address on the other network, so there's only one chance - get a router that can be a VPN client and do a site-to-site VPN. AC6 can't be a client - too bad.

Okay, but be careful what model of router you choose. On TP-Link's routers the VPN Clients are firewalled for incoming connections. So the VPN client would be able to access network resources on the VPN server's side, but not vice versa.

If it was me I would certainly first ask my ISP if they can switch my broadband connection to a public IPv4 address. Some ISPs out there still do it without charging an additional fee.

Problem solved, I bought an AX53 and connected to Mikrotik with a public IP where I run a WireGuard server.

Thanks for the help and the push in the right direction
