Model: Archer BE800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.3 Build 20251015 rel.1304 ( 4555 )

Hi,
In my home, I have an FTTH connection with TIM and a Sagecom 10G router with an internal ONT and an Archer BE800 at the back, which I use to connect my Wi-Fi devices and wired network devices, both 2.5G and 10GB.
An incorrect software update on the TIM Sagecom model is preventing it from restarting, so I decided to completely remove the TIM Sagecom router and connect the ONT directly to the 10G FTP port of the BE800. I then tried connecting the BE800 directly, setting the connection parameters as indicated at the following link:
h_t_t_p_s_:_/_/_w_w_w_._t_i_m_._i_t_/a_s_s_i_s_t_e_n_z_a_/a_s_s_i_s_t_e_n_z_a-t_e_c_n_i_c_a/g_u_i_d_e-m_a_n_u_a_l_i/m_o_d_e_m-g_e_n_e_r_i_c_o
(Please remove "underscore _ " from link, this is the only way to attach link )

But there's absolutely no way to get the BE800 to work using the parameters indicated for the FTTH connection (I only want to use the internet; I'm not interested in connecting VoIP phones to the BE800).
Then I discovered that TIM is distributing the new TIM HUB ULTRA router for customers with 10G FTTH fiber (I have this fiber connection):
h_t_t_p_s://w_w_w_.t_i_m_.i_t/f_i_s_s_o-e-m_o_b_i_l_e/f_i_b_r_a-e-a_d_s_l/m_o_d_e_m-t_i_m

(Please remove "underscore _ " from link, this is the only way to attach link )
which is distributed by you tp-link:
h_t_t_p_s_://w_w_w_.t_p-l_i_n_k.c_o_m/n_o_r_d_i_c/s_e_r_v_i_c_e-p_r_o_v_i_d_e_r/g_p_o_n/x_g_b_8_3_0_v/

(Please remove "underscore _ " from link, this is the only way to attach link )
So I wanted to know, is it possible that the BE800 can't work like the XGB830v but without the VoIP phones? Can you help me ?

I also have another question: will the XGB830v router with tp-link firmware ever be distributed in Italy?

Because if the BE800 can't work directly with the TIM FTTH network, I would consider replacing the BE800 with the XGB830V.

I read on the forum that the BE800 seems to work with some specific types of external ONTs.
My concern is that the xgb830v router supplied by tp-link to TIM uses the same external ONTs that TIM distributes, and it works. I think that with a firmware update, the BE800 should also work with the same ONTs provided by TIM to customers.

Kind Regards

Elia

Hello @EliaC ,

Welcome to our community.

Here's some important information that may explain:

Connecting the BE800's SFP+ Port Directly to Fiber
The SFP+ port on the Archer BE800 can indeed be used for WAN connectivity (direct fiber optic connection), which is one of its supported use cases. However, if you are connecting a raw fiber-optic cable directly (i.e., without an ONT/ONU in between), simply plugging the fiber into the SFP+ port is generally insufficient on its own.
To replace the ISP-provided ONT/ONU and connect directly via fiber, you would typically need an SFP+ ONU Stick (a small module that acts as an ONT and plugs into the SFP+ port of the BE800). This device handles the optical-to-electrical conversion and the ISP authentication that the ONT normally performs.

Important Considerations:
• SFP+ ONU Sticks are not universally compatible with all ISPs. Compatibility depends on whether the specific ONU Stick has been verified and approved by your ISP (TIM, in your case).
• It is strongly recommended to contact TIM directly to ask whether they support or can provide a compatible SFP+ ONU Stick for use with third-party equipment.
• TP-Link cannot guarantee compatibility, availability, or stability of third-party SFP+ ONU Sticks with your ISP's network.

For more detailed information on the supported SFP+ usage scenarios for the Archer BE800, you can refer to this community thread: Common Application Scenarios of SFP+ Interface

Therefore, the Archer BE800 does not support XGS-PON in the same way as the XGB830v.

However, to find out if the XGB830v or other TP-Link products that support XGS-PON are available in your area, we recommend contacting Local Technical Support.

Hello @Joseph-TP,  thanks for your reply.
The test I ran didn't work because the BE800 couldn't connect to the TIM network.

The SFP+ ONU Stick module was connected to the STP+ port.

I suspect the SFP+ ONU Stick module isn't compatible with the BE800 since the BE800 doesn't support XGS-PON.

Just today, TIM brought me the XGB830v router with TIM-branded firmware, which unfortunately limits some of its features.

I returned the SFP+ ONU Stick module because the XGB830v router has an integrated OLT (Optical Line Terminal).

Currently, my only option is to continue cascading the BE800 behind the XGB830v or completely replace the TIM router with an XGB830v with TP-Link firmware and eliminate the BE800.

Now I'm writing to Italian support to see if there are any alternatives.

Thanks again for your help.
