Tether App, VPN client list disappeared
I have been using the tether app for VPN clients.
I went to use the VPN to isolate a device to use on the VPN
However, there was no client list. It looked like there were no clients configured.
Ok, so I thought I would redo the set up, naming the new client the same as my old client. However, I get an error "Description already exists".
Seems like it knows there is a VPN client set up, it just isn't displaying it.
Has anyone else seen this happen? If so, how was it fixed?

Hi,
How much time did you wait?
I have noticed myself that it can take the Tether app quite a long time to synchronize certain items via the cloud.
Maybe it also helps to enter and leave the "Client List >" menu a few times. (i.e. tap > and < back and forth)

5 -10 minutes.
The strange thing is, it is not as if the VPN client list is always loading a blank screen.
It loads up the initial set up screen with the big enable button......
If I try to enable it again and log into my VPN provider, it says I already have a description that matches, and doesn't complete set up.
If I choose a different description, it fails.
VPN is Nord by the way.
I wonder if it is a Nord - Tether issue?

The big "enable" button is for all VPN servers that have been added (you can add several VPNs), so it shouldn't be specific to NordVPN.
If the "enable" button shows as disabled, when you are sure the VPN Client is actually enabled, then this means Tether hasn't synchronized its settings yet. Are you trying to access your router from somewhere far away?
Anyway, the Client List on the screen with the big "enable" button can take ages to populate. I recommend you tap the > to the right of "Client List" as that sub menu somehow synchronizes much quicker for me.

Hello @Dangermouse87 ,
It appears to be a client list displaying a caching/sync issue, rather than a VPN functionality malfunction. Please try the following suggestions:
1. For the Tether App:
- Force restart the app, completely close the Tether app, clear the background apps, and reopen it.
- Clear the app cache.
- Log in to your account again, log out of your current account and log back in to your VPN account.
- Check app versions, ensure both Tether and NordVPN are the latest versions.
2. Try logging into the Tether app on different phones and compare if the same error message appears.
3. Check the web management interface to see if your old client is included in the list of registered devices.

The screen with the big enable button is to set it up, but it shouldn't even show that screen, as I had a VPN client set up. This screen normaly shows up when a VPN isn't set up, otherwise there is just a switch to turn the VPN client on
I don't have any option to look at the client list. It is just the screen telling me to pick a VPN to set up.
Leaving it on there for 10 -15 minutes does nothing.
Thank you for the suggestions though

It seems very odd.
So here are the steps I have taken.
Smartphone 1 - Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Cleared cache, data, force closed -> same issue, set up vpn screen with big enable button
- Uninstall - reinstall -> same
Smartphone 2 -> Galaxy S10+
- Install -> same
Web Interface
- All are displayed. I deleted all and set up a new vpn client.
Smartphone 2
- Now shows the VPN client switch and seems to be working.
Smartphone 1
- Not working, same error as before (set up vpn screen)
- it is really frustrating. I wonder if there is a setting on the phone that is preventing this from working.
I suppose that as one phone is working it isn't a big issue, but I would like it to work on my main smartphone!

Hi @Dangermouse87 ,
Thank you for your comparison test.
When you were testing, did you make sure that your phone was properly connected to the router's WiFi?
Please let us know the operating system of both phones and the App version on each.
If the test details for the two phones are identical, we would like to escalate your case to the support engineers, who will follow up on it. If you are willing to conduct further analysis, please check your inbox and respond.
