Deco X50(EU) Ver: 1.0 - Secondary unit not accepting clients and resetting name to default
Hi everyone,
I’ve been struggling with my Deco X50 mesh system for a while now and I’m looking for some advice. Despite having two units, all my devices stay connected to the main unit, and the secondary unit seems to be "isolated" or not functioning correctly within the mesh.
My Setup:
-
ISP Router: Sagemcom 5670 (Wi-Fi disabled).
-
Deco Units: 2 x TP-Link Deco X50 (EU) Ver: 1.0
-
Firmware: 1.8.0 Build 25102213 Rel. 43970.
-
Connection: Main Deco connected via Ethernet to the ISP router. Secondary Deco connected via Ethernet to the Main Deco (Ethernet Backhaul).
-
Operation Mode: Wi-Fi Router.
-
Settings: Fast Roaming and Beamforming ON, Dual-band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) ON, IoT Network (2.4GHz) ON.
-
Devices: 14–20 clients across all networks.
The Problem:
-
No clients on secondary unit: All devices connect exclusively to the Main Deco, even when they are physically right next to the secondary one.
-
SSID/Name Reset: After a restart, the secondary unit changes its assigned name back to the default name, which suggests it might not be properly syncing its configuration from the Main Deco.
What I’ve tried so far:
-
Full Factory Reset: Performed a hardware reset on both units and set up the network from scratch.
-
Restarted both units multiple times.
-
Swapped the Main and Secondary units (the issue persists with whichever unit is in the secondary position).
-
Disabled Fast Roaming and Beamforming.
-
Switched between Router and Access Point (AP) modes.
-
Tested both Wireless and Wired backhaul.
It seems like the units work fine individually, but there is a major communication breakdown when they are supposed to work as a mesh. Could this be a firmware-specific bug for 1.8.0 Build 25102213 Rel. 43970?
Has anyone encountered this "name resetting" issue or found a way to force the secondary unit to properly join the mesh and accept clients?
Thanks in advance for any help!
