Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.10 Build 20251119 rel.50509(4555)

I have set up two AX55 as EasyMesh devices in Access Point Mode (with active Ethernet Backhaul) - both running newest fw [1.5.10 Build 20251119 rel.50509(4555) ]

The DHCP server on the AX55 master is disabled leaving the master firewall as soule responsible for handing out IP addresses.

I was wondering why the AX55 AP (192.168.0.251) CONSTANTLY (meaning every 34 seconds) renews/updates the DHCP via the main firewall (192.168.0.253).

The log (see below) shows that after half the lease time (34 secs) the devices enters DHCP renewing state and sends out a new DHCP request. My firewall was initially set to hand out a lease times of 86400 secs (24H), so I thought, that this might cause some sort of owerflow in the AX55, so I tried to change the lease time to 3600 secs (1H) , but this has absolutely no effect on the 34 secs schedule.

Why does the router/AP not adhere to the recieved lease time from the DHCP server?

Many of the TP-Link wireless routers behave the same when they are configured in AP mode.

I can't tell why's that, but I could give you a hint on how you can mitigate this behaviour.

For start you have to abandon the Easymesh feature and set both AX55 in plain AP mode.

They both should be configured with a static IP address on their LAN and their DHCP server should be set to off.

You should decide which is more important for you - the Easymesh feature or mitigating the frequent DHCP requests.

  @terziyski

Well - I just had a problem where my firewall had blacklisted the static assigned DHCP address of my satellite router(due to some IP conflict - I guess), and while trying to find a solution I noticed this rather aggressive DHCP refresh schedule. I just don't understand why it has to be so. Maybe it a way of checking the backhaul connection - not that this makes much sense.

I thinkI will keep the EasyMesh in operation since this makes the network more homogenous. What speak against this is the unknown behavior of a Guest Networks on EasyMeshed Access Points - but that is another story - see Guest networks on Access Points under EasyMesh - how is this supposed to work.

Anway thanks for your reply.

I believe so too, most probably for checking the backhaul connection but, since I don't own AX55, it would be really interesting what the answer to this thread is.
