Model: Archer BE230
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.2 Build 20260212 rel.13796(5553)

Swithed from T-Mobile to Xfinity for internet (1Gbps plan) when set up I was getting the 1G speeds consistently. Now I notice they only average around low 4XX.XX Mbps down and 1XX.XX up. This was with my Xfinity XB8-T in gateway mode connected to my TP-Link Arher BE-230 via the WAN port (also connected to 2.5Ghz port on the XB8-T).

I troubleshooted by disconnecting the TP-Link and restoring the default settings of the XB8-T back from bridge mode and then connected dirctly to the Xfinity gateway and the 1Gbps speeds returned. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also using Surfshark VPN merged.

I assume you've put the XB8-T in bridge mode to avoid the double NAt in your LAN.

Try something else - leave the XB8-T in normal mode and set BE230 in AP mode, then check how it goes.

Hello @udidwht ,

Thanks for contacting our community.

Is there any update for your case? I’d like to confirm something with you: does "default mode" refer to Wireless Router mode, and does "bridge mode" mean that you are using the Archer BE230 as the main router/DHCP server?

In other words, are you saying that the WAN speed on the BE230 is unstable when XB8-T is in Bridge mode?

If possible, could you try another router for comparison?

  @Joseph-TP

From the OP description, when he has the XB8-T in bridge mode, he experiences a bandwidth decrease measured on a device connected to the BE230.

@Joseph-TP I have found if I turn off my VPN (Surfshark) the download speed goes back to ~1Gbps and up speed is ~100Mbps

Hello  @udidwht ,

So, it appears that with the following settings, the BE230's download speed will remain at 1 Gbps, correct?
1. Xfinity XB8-T (Bridge mode) --- (2.5G WAN port) BE230
2. Disable Surfshark VPN on the BE230

It will with Surfshark VPN disabled. Quite a hit with the VPN on.

Hello @udidwht ,

Thanks for your reply.

We’d like to double-check:

If I switch the Xfinity XB8-T's operation mode back to "default mode," will the speed return to 1 Gbps? (And can the Surfshark VPN be disabled in this case?)
When the VPN (Surfshark) is turned off, the BE230 download speed returns to 1 Gbps, and the upload speed is around 100 Mbps. (What operation mode is the Xfinity XB8-T in at that point?)

We recommend sending an email to forumsupport.usa@tp-link.com  with the following information:
