Hello

I have one Deco M4 in my sons house setup as an access point - I have another M4 which I wish to setup and post to him - can I just set it up as access point with same SSID - will that just work with having 2 Access Points.

Hi,
If the two Deco M4 are connected directly to the front router, you can set up the 2nd Deco M4 in AP mode and then send it to your son. If the 2nd Deco M4 is planned to connect to the first Deco, it's suggested to add the 2nd Deco to the existing Deco network in the Deco app when it's next to the first Deco.
Best Regards

Many thanks but assume that he wont be able to see both of them in the app then ? Suppose that doesn't matter really ?

His router connects to a switch and the Decos will connect to the Ethernet ports in the house.

Hi,
When setting up the Deco node in the Deco app, the Deco will bind to the TP-Link account you used to log in to the Deco app. If you and your son logged in to the Deco app with the same TP-Link account, after you set up a Deco and send it to your son, when the Deco is powered on and connected to the internet, your son can manage it through the Deco app.
Best Regards

@Stone1234 Hi there. Many thanks he has now connected the one I sent him - it is working well speed wise but it is not recognised by the app on his phone. I will be there in a few weeks time and will reset it and then add it through the app.

Hello. I realise now why it doesn’t appear in the app on his phone. When I set the unit up here I used my own ID and not his. Don’t think I can change that from here - I am logged into the app here as me and I can see it and the devices connected to it.

Hi,
Since the 2nd Deco is bound to your TP-Link account, you can control it in the Deco app after it's online.

If you would like your son to be able to view the 2nd Deco unit in his own Deco app, you can add his TP-Link account as a Manager Account in your Deco app and assign it the appropriate management privileges.
How to add a manager account of Deco
What's the difference between an owner account and a manager account?

Best Regards

@Solla-topee Hello and thank you.  So if I go ahead and add his account as a Manager will his devices (phones etc) automatically switch to the nearest node ?

Hi,
Adding your son's account as a manager account allows him to manage or view the status of the 2nd Deco in the Deco app on his phone. It has nothing to do with whether his phone will switch to the nearest Deco.
Best Regards

@Solla-topee Thank you for this.  So the only way his Deco can be "mesh" will be to reset the unit that is bound to my account. Guess will have to wait till I can travel to his home to do this for him.

@Solla-topee Could we perhaps change its ownership ?
