So I have been running a 3 unit M5 mesh as access points connected to Vodafone modem/router.  We've recently swapped to (Gigaclear) full fibre coonection, and initially I've just unplugged the M5 that was connected to the Vodafone modem/router and just plugged it in to the Linksys fibre router, and all works as it should. I now want to replace the M5s with X55s.

 

I also believe that with the full fibre I can dispense with the supplied Linksys router and use 1 of the X55s in that role, and then add the other 2 as satellites, reducing the clutter on the sideboard.

 

So what are the steps I need to take to set up the new X55 mesh with unit 1 as fibre router on DCHP and the other 2 as satellites? Do I just remove the existiong M5s from the app and start again from scratch? Can I leve the M5s as a "backup" solution in the app and add the ne X55s as well?

 

If I were just replacing the M5s I think I could just add the X55s and then delete the M5s, but it's the extra step of setting one as a fibre router that's throwing me. It was all easy (IIRC) when I originally set it up but that was years ago and I've forgotten!

If you want to use the three Deco X55 replace the Linksys router and Deco M5, please confirm how the Linksys router connects to the internet.
  1. If the Linksys router connects to the internet through a fiber line, the Deco X55 can't replace it since the Deco X55 can connect to the Ethernet cable only. However, you can then connect the X55 to the Linksys router to go to the internet.
   
  2. If the Linksys router connects to the internet through an Ethernet cable, you can try to use a Deco X55 to replace it. Below are the instructions to set up the Deco network. Before configuring, it's recommended to contact your ISP to confirm the configuration details, such as the internet connection type (Dynamic IP or PPPoE), VLAN ID, username, password, etc.

  3. Once the main Deco is configured successfully, please refer to the instructions below to configure the satellite Deco.

  @Solla-topee Thankyou. The Linksys is connected via Ethernet to the internet.  I need to set the X55 up as DCHP, this I know already. As I am already using a Deco M5 mesh, should I remove them from the Deco app before adding the X55s? Or do I just unplug the M5s  and add the X55s - as the app will only "see" powered up units?

Hi, 
Generally, removing the Deco M5 network from the Deco app or not does not affect the configuration of the X55. If you do not remove the M5 network, you will need to create a new Deco network for the Deco X55 within the Deco app.

For example, if you no longer use the Deco M5 or want to add it to the X55 network later, it's recommended to remove the Deco M5 network from the Deco app.
