Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: V2_1.3.0 Build 20250912

Dear Team,

I would like to request adding the Manual Wi-Fi Channel Selection feature to the Deco X20 model.

The current Auto Optimization feature does not work very well in my environment, as it always selects the same channel (Channel 40) no matter how many times I run the optimization. Channel 40 is already being used by more than 3–4 nearby networks, making it quite congested.

Having the option to manually select a Wi-Fi channel would allow users to choose a less congested channel and potentially improve wireless performance.

I hope you will consider adding this feature in a future firmware update.

Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the feedback and feature request. I'll log it and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation. It's also recommended to pay attention to firmware update notifications in the Deco app or to the firmware details on our official website to see the new features added to the specific Deco model.
Best Regards

I agree. I can't believe how limited TP-Link's app and firmware are.

Not only are the customization options lacking, but in my case the firmware also proved to be unstable. I ended up downgrading from 1.7.1 back to 1.1.1 because 1.7.1 caused nothing but issues (see my post in the yellow-light thread).

What's even more surprising is that the downgrade was successful despite TP-Link stating that 1.7.1 is not downgradeable.

  @GeeChuan

Features that really need to be added:

  • Channel selection/preference (something that has been available on networking equipment for many years)
  • VPN client/server settings
  • The ability to assign or lock specific devices to a particular satellite/node in the mesh network

There are probably other features that could be added, but these three seem like basic functionality for a premium mesh system. At the moment, Deco feels too restricted for users who want even a moderate level of control over their network.

Stability is important, but so is flexibility. For a product marketed as a high-end mesh solution, I'd expect more advanced networking options than what is currently available.

Hi,
Deco X20 V4's firmware v1.7.1 cannot be downgraded directly using the usual methods (web UI or Deco app). However, you can try downgrading the firmware using the firmware recovery method.

Thank you very much for the feedback and feature requests for the Deco X20. I'll log them and forward them to the relevant team for evaluation.

Best Regards

Hi, thank you for your reply.

The issue is that both the download page and the Deco app state that a firmware is "not downgradeable," which is misleading.
If it can still be downgraded through the console or any another official method, even if it's not as simple as using the app, then the wording should be clarified.
For most tech-savvy users, "not downgradeable" means there is no way back once the firmware is installed.

I only tried forcing the older firmware because my Deco X20 was effectively bricked with a solid yellow light, so I had nothing to lose.

As for the additional features for future firmware releases, they would be very, very welcome.
I have spent some time browsing the forum and there's heaps of complaints/requests across different Deco models demanding for these same 3 features (VPN, Wifi Channel Selection, link/force a device to a specific node)

In my opinion, these should be standard features across the entire Deco product lineup. We are not talking about hardware limitations here; even older Deco models could support these settings through firmware updates.

Thank you for taking the feedback into consideration, looking forward to this additions
