Model: KS200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.12

I have lights behind doors, in attics, etc.

I need the LED to be ON when the light is ON.  Not visa versa.

Pilot lamps on switches have been around since the 1940's, and the need remains today.

With LED's already in the switches, this would be low hanging fruit functionality.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your use case and feedback regarding the indicator light behavior.

Currently, the design of our smart switches does not support having the LED indicator turn on when the connected light is on. By default, the indicator lights up only when the light is off, serving as a locator in the dark to help users find the switch easily.

If you prefer the LED to remain off at all times (regardless of whether the light is on or off), you can disable it in the Tapo/Kasa app. Please go to App Settings > LED Status and turn the indicator off. This will keep the LED inactive in both states.

We appreciate your suggestion and will forward it to our product team for future consideration. Thank you for your understanding.

Hilbert,

Do you know what a pilot light is? Your response strongly suggests you don’t, because what you forwarded back is completely off‑point.

A pilot light is for attic lights, basement lights, closet lights, or any fixture that is not visible from the switch location. The purpose is simple: the user can look at the switch and immediately know whether the load is ON. This functionality has existed for decades for very obvious reasons.

Telling me that your product does not support this behavior is unhelpful — I clearly understood that, which is why I made the feature request in the first place.

Telling me that I can turn the LED off entirely is also unhelpful. That suggestion so thoroughly misses the point that it borders on insulting. It’s like telling me, “Well, you could also choose not to eat the switch.” No — I didn’t want that either, and it has nothing to do with the request.

The hardware already has:

  • an LED

  • a microcontroller that knows the load state

  • firmware controlling LED behavior

So adding a third mode (“LED ON when load is ON”) is not a hardware redesign — it’s a small firmware enhancement.

Please forward the actual request — pilot‑light behavior, not “how to turn the LED off.

Sincerely,

The Promised LAN

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a clear and detailed explanation. I sincerely apologize if my previous response came across as dismissive or insulting — that was absolutely not my intention.

My goal was to fully explain the current capabilities of the LED indicator within the existing firmware and user settings, not to suggest that turning it off was an equivalent solution to your request.

I have documented your specific request for “pilot-light behavior” and have escalated it directly to our product and firmware development teams for their review and feasibility assessment as a potential future feature.

Thank you again for your passionate and constructive feedback. It is through inputs like yours that we can better understand real-world user needs.
