Hello,

I've been using a TP-WR1043ND (192.168.1.1) router for several months without any problems now. However the wifi-signal in our house is not strong enough to reach everywhere. Therefore I set up an extra TL-WA801ND access point (same SSID with ip 192.168.1.254) and this worked perfectly for several weeks.

However now I added an additional access point (TL-WA901ND with IP 192.168.1.63) on the network to increase range in the backyard. I set it up in the same way as the other access point with a wifi channel nicely between the other two signals. The router is at channel 2, the 801ND is at channel 9 and the 901ND is at channel 6.

This works well directly after setup, but after about an hour or so the wifi loses it's internet connection. The mobile devices (both cellphones and laptops) stay connected to the SSID, but there is no internet connection anymore. Meanwhile devices connect by utp (like PS4 and PC) do seem to have a working internet connection, so it's a wifi related issue.

I figured this might have been a DHCP issue, since both the router and the newest AP gave out DHCP (forgot to turn it off), so I disabled it on the AP and rebooted all AP's and router. This fixed the network connection, but again after approximately 30 minutes or something the same thing happened.

Does anyone have any clue what else might be causing this?

Do the access points and the main router use the same ssid?
You may try them to different ssid to locate whether just one has the issue or all of them have the issue.
The channel of the three device can be set to 1,6 and 11. So there is no interference among them.
The channel width is recommended to be 20MHz.

What's the IP address on a client when the issue happen?

Hi, thanks for helping me :)

To answer your questions:

Yes, both the router and the two AP's have the same SSID and password/encryption.
The channels do overlap slightly if I check it with a wifi analyser on my phone. I will change the channels to 1, 6 and 11 and with to 20MHz to make sure they don't overlap.

I'm not sure what the IP addresses of the clients are, but it happens on all devices at the same time. So all phones and laptops connect to the SSID (in different parts of the house, connect to different AP's or the router) keep their connection with the SSID, but the internet connection is lost.

The only way I regained an internet connection was by setting both the router, and the newest AP (the TL-WA901ND with IP 192.168.1.63) back to factory default and setting up the SSID's again. This only works temporarily, but after some time the wifi gets corrupted or something. I just noticed I'm also no longer able to access my modem (I put it in bridge mode and has ip 192.168.100.1) from my phone when this happens. However the wired connection still work, I'm not sure if I can access it through wired connection, I'd have to try it.

I'm really baffled by this

Hi, thanks for helping!

To answer your questions: Yes both the router and the two access points have the same SSID name, password and encryption. I will try to give them different names and see if the problem occurs with all three or just one.

I will also change the channels to 1,6 and 11 and 20MHz to make sure they don't overlap. When checking the wifi signals on my phone I did see a slight overlap between the three SSID's.

I don't know what the IP of the clients is when this happens. But it isn't just one device, but all mobile devices at once. Both the laptop next to the router and a mobile phone far away from the router and near the access point with ip 192.168.1.254. So something corrupts the SSID entirely. It doesn't seem to matter to which SSID the device is connected.

The IP's of the AP's are static, so I don't think the DHCP range could be the issue?

I also noticed on my mobile (connected through wifi) that I can't access my modem 192.168.100.1 which is in bridge mode. I'm not sure if this is also the case if I try it with a wired device. I will try that when I get home.

The DHCP range won' t be the issue, if the access points are configured with static IP addresses.
Can you mobile access to the router or the access points when internet stops working?

You may try to unplug the 901ND to test the router and 801ND are still working normally.
