Model: TD-W8961N
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 4.0.0. Build 121017 Rel.09765

Hi,

I have an old W8951NB router (I put 8961 because I was not able to choose it but it should be same regarding the functions) which I would like to use an extender for my primary MR200 4G router. However, I have not been able to find any guide how to set it up. Also I am not sure if these two models are compatible.

All tutorials are using different TP link UI (a"green" one but I have the "orange" one).

The thing which also confuses me is both bridge mode (in the Internet > Encapsulation section) as well as WDS mode (in the Wireless > WDS Settings).

Basically I enabled bridge mode in the old router, changed IP address to 192.168.1.2., used same credentials as the primary router and disable DHCP. I also tried to enable WDS mode but with no success.

Could you please advise some instructions how to properly set it up?

Hi,

What is the model number? Is it TD-W8951ND or TD-28951NB? What is the hardware version of it?

Meanwhile, if it supports WDS function, you can use it and connect to the MR200 by wireless to extend the wifi range. Below is the instruction you can refer to:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/327/

May it help and have a nice day.
