I am fairly new here and had the deco M4 for less than a month.
just got the new firmware update yesterday and I was wondering if this is just a timing thing that I got an update in the first month of usage.
how often should I expect firmware updates in general?

It has been 6 months since the last proper firmware update.
Actually there was an update 3 months ago, but it caused problems and was withdrawn after a few days.
That has happened before, so don't rush into installing firmware updates when they first come out.
Wait a week or so and check on this forum to see whether people are confirming that it's okay for them or reporting problems.
It is hard to say when the next firmware will be released. Usually some new features will be added via the firmware upgrade.
You can keep an eye on our official website or Deco to get the updates.
Like CW185 said, a new firmware tests by our manufacturers are not always enough, the customer varies and the actual network environment is different, there may have some problems found after we release it, while do NOT worry about that; our enggineer will always work on it and fix it and will make it more customer friendly and complete.
