Hi guys,

I am writing this post because I'm not sure i'm getting the speed I should be getting  with my powerline system.

I pay for a 190/30 mbps FTTC connection, and i do actually achieve those speeds on any of my devices (via wifi). However, my main pc, which does not have a WIFI card, is connected to the internet via Powerline.

Given that I achieve 80/30 mbps at best, I thought i had to test my powerline on various outlet in the house (thinking that the problem was the outlet near my PC) to make sure that was the best I could get. Even from the closest outlet to the router my speed did not increase (and via WIFI it's even lower as it is about 50/30, while it's advertised to be able to reach 300 mbps via wifi and 500 via ethernet).

Given the result of these tests of mine, I came to the conclusion that the problem was in my electric network; however, i decided to check with TPLINK software the actual speed my powerline was able to deliver. These were the results:

Am i wrong or does this mean that my powerline is actually receiving up to 169 mbps, but is only able to deliver 70/26 mbps? Is there a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

@Dren

For your information, the TL-WPA4220KIT has the 100Mbps ethernet ports, which means that the wired speed you can get won't be higher than 100Mbps, combined with the interference/obstacles, the actual speed would be slower.

And the AV500/AV600 is not the actual speed you can get, it is the powerline link rate, which will affect the actual speed you can get; from the utility, the powerline link rate between them is 169Mbps, as the formula, the actual speed = 30%/40% x powerline link rate. So compared with the ethernet port standard and the actual powerline link rate, the current speed would be normal.

Cause the bandwidth you paid is 190/30, you can order a powerline adapter with gigabit ethernet ports to enjoy internet, like TL-WPA7510KIT, TL-WPA8630KT.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z Thanks for your thourough response.

I guess either I didn't pay enough attention when I bought it or it was misleadingly advertised.

However, thanks for your explanation, I do finally understand  how this technology work! I will try to get the powerline adapter you suggested in the future.
