Model: Archer T4U
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1030.22.202.2018

Hello,

I'm using Windows 10 x64 Version 1909 Build 18363.1110.

I have been having a lot of issues with the T4U having a lot of ping spikes every couple of seconds, making it perform terribly even in browsing tasks because every 10 seconds or so everything will freeze for a bit. As you can see from the picture the connection recovers itself without any user input after going down for 1-2 seconds every 5-10 seconds.

I have had the device for about a year now and I've always had this problem, even on the previous version of Windows (1893 I think). I used to use the 2.4GHz band before because I was far from the router anyway so it wasn't a big deal back then but now I've upgraded my home internet to 200Mbps, the router to an Archer C6 AC1200, and brought it closer so I need the 5GHz band to take advantage of the speeds.

I have browsed around a bit and noticed that a lot of people using the T3U are having the same issue and have gotten some special beta drivers that have helped. I've got a T4U which is different ; however, I tried those drivers to test anyway and unfortunately they didn't work. I still have the same issue using firmware versions 1030.38.0712.20191030.29.1102.2017, and "Archer T3U_beta_U2_U3_5G unstable issue_1030.22.0202.2018" (same version as the official one but apparently a different beta driver) that were posted in other threads for the T3U. I have also tried connecting the device to USB 2.0 as suggested by some and that didn't help. Changing the wireless mode from Auto (2.4GHz & 5GHz) to 802.11ac (5GHz only) as suggested in other threads helped reduce the severity of the lag spikes a bit (from ~3500ms and timing out to ~1500-2000ms) but it did not help with the frequency (they still happen every 5-10 seconds) meaning that the device is still a terrible experience to use.

Are there any other drivers to try for the T4U or some other fix?

Thank you!

@Kathy_Z Hello! Thanks for providing a driver, though unfortunately it doesn't seem to work.

When it is installed Windows will freak out and continuously detect and lose connection with the device every second. The first time it disconnects and reconnects the driver will revert to 1030.38.712.2019 but it will continue connecting and disconnecting until the device is physically unplugged and then plugged back in. After this is done it'll begin working again but using the 1030.38.712.2019 drivers and continue to have the same issues.

After a PC restart I am able to switch to those new drivers (1030.41.514.2020); however, after selecting it the device simply doesn't work. Either it will always freaks Windows out, reverts, and continues to freak out until the device is unplugged and plugged back in (and it uses the older drivers) or the device will just do nothing. When the latter happens Windows will make the sound that a new device has been connected/disconnected when connecting/disconnecting the device but the device will have no lights on and Windows will not show that there is a WiFi adapter connected in the Network Connections panel.

Are there any other drivers I can try?

@Kathy_Z Hello again,

Is there any update to this issue or any other drivers to try?

@Lynkz It seems like the problem is known for years and they didn't do anything with that to these times.

I found on other forums that it is possible that the problem is with the automatically searching for other Wi-Fi's.
I'll test it out today because I've bought that T4U V3 few days ago and got the same issues as you - every 10-15 seconds ping over 3000. And I know it's not the problem with my AP or router - it's for sure the problem with TP-Link.

So - here you can try it:

  1. Press the hold the “Windows” button and the “R” button.
  2. You should have in front of you the “Run” window.
  3. Write in the box within the window the following line: “Services.msc” but without the quotes.
  4. Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.
  5. Left click on one of the options in the right panel side.
  6. Press on your keyboard the “W” button.
  7. Now you should find the Wireless Autoconfig feature or WLAN Autoconfig (on Windows 10)
  8. Right click on the Wireless AutoConfig option you have on the left side panel.
  9. Left click on the “Properties” option you have in that menu.
  10. Left click on the “Stop” button under the “Services status” topic.
  11. You will have there a feature that says “Startup type”.
  12. You will need to left click on the drop-down menu on the right side from “Startup type” and left click on the “Manual” option.
  13. Left click or tap on the “ok” button button to close the window.
  14. Reboot your Windows 8 or Windows 10 device.
  15. Check and see if you still have your searching for the wireless networks enabled.

Without link, the site won't let me paste it :/

If you were able to test it before I'll do it and give you an answer, let me know if it solved the problem.

Be in touch,

Daveson

The most moronic thing ever.

Release a product with a bug, does not fix it forever.

First and last product I have ever bought from you (I have been robbed, like everybody else with this crappy product from this shameless company).

And yes, I tried ALL your driver's updates, 2018, 19, 20; I tried combined with disabling RunSwUSB (and thus switchusb.exe), also combined with only leaving read/exec permissions to rtwlanu.sys driver file. Nothing of the aforementioned alternatives solve this issue.

This is very stupid on tp-link part so please fix this at the earliest or else you are worthy of the stated above, and then some more.
