I'm in the market for a new router and was looking at the AX3000 (Archer AX50) vs the AC2600 (Archer A10).

 

I am somewhat confused by the specifications for the AX3000:

 

5 GHz: 2402 Mbps (802.11ax, HT160)
2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps (802.11ax)

 

Since these numbers are all for the AX standard, I'm unsure of what the capacity of the AX3000 will be when using the AC standard (or even lower standards).  So it is difficult to compare to the AC2600:

 

5 GHz: 1733 Mbps (802.11ac)
2.4 GHz: 800 Mbps (802.11n)

 

I don't think I have many AX devices so buying the AX3000 would be looking towards the future.  But if it is going to be worse on my current (AC and a few N devices), than I think I would go with the AC2600 for the router.

@drdec AX50 is 2x2, 2 streams.

AC Band 5ghz:1 stream 433 mbps, 2 streams 867mbps

N Band 2.4ghz: 1 stream 150 mbps, 2 streams 300 mbps

 

To use with AC clients buy the AC2600

The AX50 being a 2x2 (2 streams) configuration and the A10 (AC2600) being a 4x4 (4 streams) configuration are facts, even if TP-Link doesn't specifically mentioned it.

 

The theoretical speeds mentioned by Tavocampana for the 5GHz band are standard values as per 802.11ac standard with 80 MHz channel width.

 

If you often have multiple devices simultaneously transferring data over your WiFi network, then a 4x4 MU-MIMO router like the A10 (AC2600) could be of advantage.

 

The AX50 achieves its high advertised speeds on the 5 GHz band by utilizing 160 MHz channel width, while the A10's maximum is 80 MHz channel width.

 

According to the 802.11ac Wave 2 standard, with 160 MHz channel width on the 5 GHz band you would get 867 Mbps with 1 stream and 1733 Mbps with 2 streams, provided that the client device actually supports 160 MHz channel width. (there are currently not so many client devices that do)

 

Some routers offer higher-than-standard speeds that are achieved by implementing non-standard modulation schemes, like what must be the case with the "2.4 GHz: 800 Mbps (802.11n)" of the A10 (AC2600) router, which equals 200 Mbps per stream. However, chances for coming across a client device that actually supports this are rather slim, I think.
