Model: RE450
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20171220 Rel. 73615 (6765)

Hello,

I am truly perplexed with this issue.  My RE450 Extender consistently keeps dropping the 5GHz connection.  The 2.4 GHz connection is fine but because of the drop in speed is not suitable for my video conferencing.  I also purchased two of these units and both behave exactly the same way.

I live in Canada and am have Bell Fibe (500 MB download).  I have the Bell Home Hub 3000 router which broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. The SSID's for both frequencies are different so I can identify the 2.4 GHz connection from the 5 GHz connection.

I have researched this issue and tried many different solutions but nothing seems to work.  Here is what I have done:

1) Tried upgrading the firmware.  The firmware is the same version as what the device came with but I did it anyway.  It did not resolve the problem;

2) The Extender has a different SSID than the router.  The Extender has "Ext" after it.  So I have in total 4 SSID's:

  • Router 2.4GHz SSID
  • Router 5 5GHz SSID
  • Extender 2.4GHz EXT SSID
  • Extender 5GHz EXST SSID

The issue still persists.

I changed the router channels from "Auto" and selected Channel 1 for 2.4GHz and 36 for 5.0GHz.

The issue still persists.

Has there been a solution for this problem?

Any support would be greatly appreciated since I am working from home and on video conferences daily.

@TJaff

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Sorry for the delay.

We would like to check the following details, then forward your case to our senior engineers directly:

  1. When the 5ghz dropped out, will you see the 5ghz light still lit up?
  2. If you checked on the settings>network map, is there an exclamation mark or any network error on the 5ghz?
  3. What is the IP address and gateway on the device when the 5ghz connected dropped out?
  4. If possible, please log into the extender and help me save the system log when the connection dropped;

By the way, what did you do to recover the 5ghz connection, reboot the extender or it would come back automatically later?

Thanks a lot.

@Solla-topee Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response.

In response to your questions:

1) Yes, when the 5GHz signal drops on the RE450 Extender I still see the blue light on;

2) On the client, yes, I see "!"

3) The IP address I believe was 192.168.2.197 and 192.168.2.10 (the IP addresses change so these might not be correct)

4) System Log is attached

5) To restore the 5GHz connection, I have to reboot the RE450 Range Extender.

I have already rebooted it and if you want, I can give you specific details (IP Address, Time, and logs) the next time it happens.

@Solla-topee

Hello,

The issue just reoccurred.

Client IP address: 192.168.2.197 around 2:40 PM EST.

I logged in to the Extender and downloaded the logs but I could not browse the internet (only had connection to Extender and that's all).

I logged out of the 5 GHz SSID and rejoined Extender 2.4 GHz network but cannot log in to the Extender because of login conflict.  Error is "User admin with host unknown (192.168.2.197) is currently logged in...."

I have waited 10 minutes and still cannot log in to Extender because of conflict.

I cannot rejoin the Extender 5GHz either so am locked out of Extender for further logs until login idle timeout happens.

Attached are logs:

All clients on 5Ghz network are disabled.

2.4 GHz clients still ok

Once disconnected from Extender 5GHz network, cannot rejoin without rebooting Extender or waiting unknown time (many hours).  Only can join 2.4 GHz now.

Gateway os 192.168.2.1.

Router 5GHz network is ok - download speed over 300 MBPs.

@Solla-topee

Hello,

I was just able to log in to Extender by IP from 2.4 GHz network.  Updated logs attached.

For me what ended up working was shutting off the 5G on my router and connecting the RE450 via network cable to the router (set it up as an access point) and have the RE450 broadcast the 5G signal.
