Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2

I recently purchased Deco P9 (x3) units to replace a mix of M5 and a powerline adapter (tplink also) to get connectivity in garage. The old powerline adapters worked great, but wanted wifi instead, so went with the P9s. I am using the P9s in AP mode, have primary one wired to router, I have secondary P9 routers in Living room (working great) and Garage (keeps dropping connection, seems to be using WIFI backhaul only as speeds are brutally slow when connected) and an M5 in my office. For some reason, the P9 in the garage is using the M5 as a source instead of PLC.

Any ideas why powerline adapters work fine but p9s wont use it? The sockets are all on same electric circuit. I have tryied swapping P9s around and whichever one I put in Garage it wont use PLC, and speeds are slow. Why does powerline adapter work fine but P9 wont use same socket? When using powerline adapters on the pc I get full speeds (95mb down and 20mb up) but when using the P9 I get 5-6mb down and 0.02up. Im at the point now of removing all decos out and just going with powerline adapters

I have included a map of the setup here, with notations to show that the P9 in garage is using M5 as source, so cannot be using Powerline backhaul. Any ideas how to debug this or get it working?

@ShaneOC

Hi,

Have you tried to unplug the M5 for a while and check the P9 in Garage  to see whether the powerline backhaul is restored;

--if yes, then plug the M5 back and check again;

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link I tried that, once again the garage has just connected to one of the other decos via WIFI as can be seen in the updated map:

This is really frustrating. My TPLink powerline socket adapters work perfectly on the same sockets, so really not sure why p9s do not and the deco android and webb apps are annoyingly limited in being able to diagnose what is going on. Is there a way to disable Wifi backhaul to force use of powerline? Im at the point of returning the P9s and reverting to cables as the p9 powerline doesnt seem to work anywhere near as well as the normal powerline TL-PA4010P adapters.

@ShaneOC Just to add to this, Im certain its not using the Powerline for backhaul, as speed tests show < 9mb/s on Google/Ookla (I have a 100Mb connection andn get 85mb+ on devices connected to other decos), despite the deco app saying it connected to both wifi and powerline.

@ShaneOC

I'm interested to know the answer to this question too. Sorry I can't help but this happens exactly the same for me.

@hall_soph What firmware version are you running? I got on to tplink support and they sent me version 1.1.3 and that solved my

problems
