Model: TL-PA7017 KIT
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 3.2.4_701F14_191101_901

Hi,

I've been running AV600 (TL-PA4022P) since last summer and they've been fine. However, it's frustrating that they only come equipped with FE ports. So when I needed to add some extra adapters I went with the "faster" AV1000 (TP-PA7017P) adapters which come with GE ports.

To my surprise they are slower than the AV600s! I thought it might be an interop issue so I turned off all the AV600s and ran iperf tests directly between the two AV1000, but the results are the same. In favourable conditions I can get 80-90Mb/s throughput over the Av600. With the AV1000 I can get, at best, 40Mb/s.

So basically I've paid twice as much for a device which is half the speed!

Any idea what's going on here? Is the AV1000 chipset just less tolerant of noise than the AV600?

Thanks,

Alan

@AlanG79   Hi,

It is recommended to unlug AV600 and plug AV1000 to the same wall sockets that AV600 were using to do Iperf and see if speed could better.

If still not good, may I have a photo of your iperf test and the network topology when you do the iperf test, thank you.

In the real network environment, it would be better if we use the powerline devices with same powerline data speed in the same network. If you want to upgrade model and use powerline devices with different data speeds together. Here are some recommendations:

Current Powerline

Recommendation

AV600/AV1300

AV600, AV1300

AV1000/AV2000

AV1000, AV2000

You are lucky. I can't go over 30Mbps with AV 600 even when both connected to the sockets connected to the same box on the wall. I thought to buy AV1000 instead, but it seems I have to be careful with that :)

@Solla-topee

I've just retested and now I'm getting much faster speeds with the AV1000. About 135Mb/s versus 75Mb/s with AV600.

Strange, when I first plugged them in they were so slow. Do they have to go through some kind of learning cycle?

@AlanG79 Hello,

I do not think powerline devices have  a learning cycle thing, maybe it was affected by some home appliances or powerline noise at that time.
