Setting up secondary access point
Hi - I am new at this. Help please if this makes sense to you.
I have an Archer VR1600v is set up as a DSL modem router and as my primary access point. My TD-W9960 is set up as a secondary access point. I would like to access the internet via wifi on the secondary router. Both routers are connected via CAT5.
Steps taken to setup secondary access point include:
- Disabled DHCP
- Assigned static IP address 192.168.1.2 (primary router DHCP address pool 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.199)
- Set 2.4GHz on both routers set to channels 1 and 11 respectively
- Set secondary modem to Wireless Router Mode
- Connected both routers with CAT5E
However, I am missing something as I am not able to access the internet from the secondary access point. I can access both modems from the SSID of the primary access point via 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. I don't have any configuration on the secondary router under Advanved | Network | Internet. I wouldn't know what config to set up.
Like I said, I'm new to this. What have I missed please? Thanks.

As seen from the Screenshots you're not receiving a valid LAN IP address as well as any DNS IP address on your Mac when you're connected to TD-W9960.
For some reason DHCP server on VR1600v doesn't serve this information through TD-W9960 to its client devices.
That's the reason you don't have an Internet access on the Mac when connected to TD-W9960.
What you can do (normally this shouldn't be configured according to the guide I posted) is to configure TD-W9960 LAN settings like this:
After saving the configuration reboot the TD-W9960 and test (be sure that you're connected to the second AP).

Thank you. They were already connected LAN1 to LAN1. And I've double checked the CAT5 cables - I swapped them round with no change in result. I forgot to mention that I hve a red flashing light on my secondary access router. Is that a symptom or a cause? Thanks for any other ideas.

Switch back TD-W9960 to DSL modem router mode and follow this guide, then reboot it and test again.

I reset the Operation Mode on W9960 to DSL Modem router Mode and rebooted. All other settings in the instructions reflect how the modem has been setup.
Let me clarify how I have set up the IP addresses. My primary router (Archer VR1600v) is setup as a DHCP Server (not DHCP Relay). The IP address pool is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199. Therefore, I assigned the W9960 an IP address of 192.168.1.2.
I rebooted both in order - primary first. Connected to the SSID on the secondary and still no luck. The light is still flashing.
Thank you for your patience. Thoughts?

The flashing light is normal - it means that you're not using DSL port (WAN port in Wireless Router operation mode).
Actually you don't need these ports connected since you're using the device in manual AP mode (my first post).
This should be working. configuration.
What's your DNS server on the main router ?
When you're connected to the second device (AP):
1. What are the IP address settings from the main router DHCP server ?
In command prompt issue the "ipconfig/all" command:
2. Do you have replies from "ping 8.8.8.8" command ?

Ok - I've attached screenshots though I don't know what they mean.
Here's how the primary AP is configured.
And my Mac.
IPCONFIG results
Results from pinging 8.8.8.8
Does this help?

Connect your Mac to the second AP (TD-W9960) and post only the screenshots from your Mac including Wi-Fi DNS tab.
