Model: Archer AX10
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20211014 Rel. 54860

Hello,

I recently purchased the iPad 9th gen and I suffer packet loss from the beginning of using it with my AX10 on 5Ghz network. However the issue only appears when the iPad is in direct line of sight of the router. When I move to the next room behind the wall or even behind the corner, the issue goes away.

The issue appeared even on the previous router FW version and previous iOS release and the iPad is the only device with this issue, however it's the only 802.11ac portable device that I use. (Otherwise we have 2 iPhone 12 which support the 802.11ax standard)

I have a 1Gbps fiber connection and on the phones it's stable at ~700Mbps with no packet loss. I also use the Archer C6 router at work and the iPad has no issues with it's 5Ghz band.

AX10 WiFi config:

OFDMA on

TWT on

Smart Connect off (2,4G and 5G bands are separated as the 2,4G is used only for smart-home appliances)

5G settings:

security WPA2/WPA3-Personal

Version Auto

Transmit power High

Channel width 80Mhz

Channel 48 (pretty much the best I could use regarding the local interference)

Mode 802.11a/n/ac/ax mixed

Below are the ping results from AX10 to iPad

Hello, what is the iOS version of the iPad 9th gen? please try modifying the 5G mode in the "Advanced" setup menu under "Wireless" -> "Wireless Settings" from the default setting "802.11a/n/ac/ax mixed" to "802.11a/n/ac mixed", then monitor again.

Meanwhile, try using security as WPA2-PSK, AES.

@Kevin_Z

Hello Kevin,

I am glad to hear from you.

The iPad is currently running the 4th public beta of iPadOS 15.2 (Build 19C5050b), but the issue was exactly the same on the stable iPadOS 15.1. I had already tried messing with the 5GHz settings before reporting the issue here, but I tried again and the results are the same. I also updated the AX10 FW to the latest 1.2.5 Build 20211117 Rel. 38093(4555) and tested again with no improvements whatsoever. Currently the config is back at 802.11ax and WPA2-PSK, AES.

I unfortunately doubt these settings have anything common with my issues as the connection is perfectly normal when the iPad is not in direct line with the router (even just putting a 15mm wooden plank in front of the router helps and makes the connection stable). It seems like it's more of a connection negotiation problem between the AX10 and iPad wlan chip. The iPad also most of the time gets ~500Mbit/s speedtest results and great ping response times, but then all of a sudden it starts glitching and the speedtest goes drastically down to 0,5Mbit/s.

Hi, can you please try disabling OFDMA on the AX10 also?

BTW, we have reported the issue to the support engineers, they will likely reach out to you via email to continue to troubleshoot your issue.
