Configuration Guide TP-Link Deco Speed Test
Curious about whether you are truly getting the Internet speeds that you're paying for? Then you might want to go for a speed test. I believe most of you are familiar with some popular internet speed test services, like https://www.speedtest.net. Here we want to introduce our TP-Link Deco Speed Test tool, it allows you to check the current upload and download speed of your internet connection, and test the real-time speed that mobile devices obtain from the network.
How to Perform a Speed Test on Deco APP
Speedtest measures ping /latency, download, and upload speeds between the testing device and a test server. There are two places on the Deco APP where you could run a speedtest:
"Test Internet Speed" under Deco APP>More
Here, it measures the maximum upload and download speed that the main Deco could get from the ISP modem, it doesn't mean all devices connected to Deco could reach that speed.
"Test Speed" under Deco lab>WiFi Assistant
It measures your cellphone's real-time speed to the connected Deco, and the results here will be almost the same as the speed testing via Ookla Speedtest App.
What factors may impact the Speedtest result
-
The position of the connected Deco. Please do not put it into closets, TV cabinets, or any kind of enclosed space. Put it in an open space if you can.
-
The Wi-Fi/ Ethernet capabilities of the test device. Please make sure the wireless device is 5Ghz supported and capable of reaching high speed, the wired device supports a 1 Gigabit connection.
-
The speedtest servers. It is recommended to use a variety of test servers to get the most complete picture of your speed.
What I should do if my internet speed is slow
The network may be slow due to the internet service provider, the router, or the devices themselves. The best way to find the source of your slowdown woes is to take a few internet speed tests at different potential choke points.
Occasionally, we would receive feedback that the result from "Test Internet Speed" is not expected and is slower than the ISP bandwidth.
So far "Test Internet speed" does not allow changing speedtest servers and it is suggested to connect a wired laptop to the second Ethernet port of the main Deco and check speed via Speedtest APP instead of the webpage, as the result of the webpage is not always accurate and stable. You may install a Speedtest APP from https://www.speedtest.net/apps, , it is available for Windows PC and Mac.
-
Some notes when running speedtest on the laptop:
-
Please make sure the speed coming from your modem is fine, you may directly connect your PC to the modem to verify this.
-
If it is close to what you have subscribed from ISP, Deco does provide the desired speed, you may take this result for reference.
-
If it is lower than what you expected, try changing the speedtest server and perform a few more tests, some servers might not be able to reach full speed with your ISP.
