Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.6.0 Build 20220720 Rel. 62024

I use 2 Deco M9 plus as AP and recently found that there are periodical ping spikes every 10 seconds, which makes online gaming impossible.

I also noticed that there are repeative error logs appeared every 10 seconds. I have updated to the latest firmware but it does not help.

Are the ping spikes relates to the error logs? How can I fix this issue?

After couple experiments I found that it may be caused by some application on my iPad.

After I disconnect my iPad from Wifi, the spikes disappeared. Don't know why but I rebooted my iPad and everything's fine now.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

The logs are not related to ping spike.

Is the gaming host connected to M9 plus via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi?

If via Wi-Fi, here are some suggestions for your reference:

1. turn off "Mesh Technology" on the Deco APP.

2. disable "fast roaming" under Deco APP>More>Advanced.

3. enable QOS for Gaming and put this device to high priority.

If it is connected via cable, can I have the model number of your computer and would the same issue exist when connecting to the main M9 plus?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

@David-TP

Hi there,

With more experiments, I found the ping spikes are caused by the BT on my iPad air.

As long as I switch iPad BT on, the spikes appeared; once I switch iPad BT off, the spikes disappeared.

I tried to disable 2.4GHz and use 5G only, but the situation remains.

I can use Wifi smoothly now, but would like to know is there anything we can do to solve this issue?

regards.

Hi, it is specific to BT on the iPad air only?

I see you mentioned at the very beginning, that if the iPad is disconnected from Wi-Fi, there will be no ping spike. In other words, the trigger might need to be when iPad air is connected to M9 plus, then BT is turned on, right?

Would the same ping spike start if you enable Bluetooth on iPhone or other devices?

May I know the IOS version of your iPad Air?

And later I might need to forward your case to the senior engineers, were you able to reproduce this issue most of the time?

Does it matter which Deco M9 plus the iPad is connected?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Test configuration:

  1. Deco M9+ runs in AP mode
  2. Use my MBP (connected to master deco via 5G channel) to ping the machines:
    1. the first deco (master)
    2. the second deco
    3. router
  3. iPad Wifi off, BT off
  4. Switch iPad BT on (keep Wifi off)

After step 4, the ping spikes appeared on all the 3 machines.

Check this video: Deco M9 plus ping spikes after turn on iPad BT

iPad model: iPad Air (3rd generation)

iOS version: 15.6

I don't think it's BT interference issue since MBP is using 5G channel.

Since M9+ has BT4.2 and Zigbee functions, I think maybe when iPad switch BT on, it may look for other BT devices for connection and made Deco M9 plus malfunctioning or something.

Is there any way to disable BT on Deco M9 plus?

regards,

Hi, Thanks for the update.

During the setup of Deco M9 Plus, Bluetooth is also used to look for new Mesh units so currently there is no plan to turn off BT at this moment.

In this way, I would like to escalate your case to our senior engineer to see if there are any other possibilities or suggestions for the current issue.

Please check whether you have got an email from us.

Best regards.

Yes I got email from TP-link. If you need a debug log, maybe I can help.

Regards.
