Hello,

I have a weird situation. My parents live in an area with slow internet, around 50 Mbits down. It may improve in the future, but that's not sure.

They have 2 TP-Link access points that are starting to die (sometimes you can connect to them and they don't give internet and sometimes you can't even connect to them, they will work after multiple restarts or turning off for a few minutes).

I wanted to buy two new access points.

I found the TP-Link range extenders interesting. They can work in extender mode or AP mode.

Since the internet is slow, I don't really care for the fastest option, but rather the option with the longest range possible.

I'm considering the RE650 or the RE705X. They're similar in price today with the cyber monday deals. The issue is they don't say the distance covered on the website.

The RE650 has less features but 4 external antennas where as the RE705X is feature packed and will probably be better for future proofing but has 2 external antennas.

Right now my parents are using wifi 5 on their main router, but it shouldn't matter because the extenders will most probably be used in AP mode.

What do you guys think I should do? Which has the better range? Which has the better overall package?

Things to note, RE650 has more antennas, has 4×4 MU-MIMO, has faster 2.4GHz speed.

RE705X is wifi 6, has better 5GHz speed, 2 extenders antennas and 2×2 MU-MIMO, and larger bandwidth?

  @kthum

Hi, if you tend to connect RE650 or RE705X via Ethernet cable to the main router(in AP mode), I think you could also consider a twin-pack/three-pack Deco E4(with 2* 100m/s Ethernet ports)  or Deco M4/S4(with 2* 1000m/s ports)since the wireless coverage is the most important. The price of the E4 kit is also quite competitive.
