Firmware Version: 1.0.4

Hi there,

I'm moving into a new house where the incoming fibre connection is in the understairs cupboard.  I plan to use the main PX50 as the router (connecting to the internet using PPPoE) and two satellite PX50s - one in the lounge, one on the upstairs floor in a study.  I want to disable wifi on the 'main' unit that will be in the understairs cupboard - I don't want clients connecting to it because wifi connection is likely to be impaired due to it being in a cupboard.  Is this possible.

Thanks,

Mike

PS if only there was a CAT5/6 cable from the understair cupboard to an open location in the house :-)

Hi, welcome to the community.

Have you used any powerline adapters before in the house?

In general, Deco PX50 would be a good choice but there is a minor issue that Deco does not allow to turn off the Wi-Fi band on a specific unit.

I think you might have an old modem router. If that is the case, you could use a pair of powerline adapters, like TL-PA9020P KIT for example. They could provide an Ethernet connection from the upstairs cupboard to an open location in the house, like:

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately that won't work for me because I will need another at least one additional PX50 on the upper floor.  The PX50 will not happily coexist with other powerline adapters.

If you haven't bought PX50s yet or can return them, you can buy set of "regular" TP-Link powerline adapters and set of TP-Link Deco X50/X55, and combine them.

  @Alexandre. Yes I think that will work for me.

My firewall has PoE so I might be able to locate an X50-PoE just outside the understair cupboard to cover the ground floor, and then X50 for the upper floors.
