Model: Archer AX55 Pro
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20230803 rel.35127(4555)

Hi all,

I have the router uptodate and I am experiecing internet drops ocasionaly for at leat a year (i see them like twice a week a bit randomly). Local network works fine, I can reach by smart home things etc. Just the WAN/Internet port drops on the router and lights red. (I run my WAN on second port nr 2 as you can choose if you want to use 1g or 2,5g port on the AX55 Pro)

(all PCs are wired)

Drops last usualy 5-20 mins.

My ISP checked the modem in the antena and modem is not facing any drops at these times, just the TP-Link router. (last drop on the ISPs modem was before christmas due to weather conditions).

IP is static, changing DNS to google make no difference.

Also it does not happen woth other older routers I had around.

Routers FW was automaticly updated several times, I did several factory resets but the drops keep happening.

Accroding to the log it changes the WAN port setting between the 2 switchable WAN ports for no reason? Any idea why? Bug in FW?

Hello, thank you very much for the feedback.

In the system log of TP-Link Wi-Fi routers, WAN1 corresponds to the green Internet LED, WAN0 corresponds to the orange/red Internet LED.
Therefore, they are actually indicating the WAN port connection status instead of switching between two WAN ports.
For example, WAN_ON and WAN0_OFF means Internet LED is green, WAN1_OFF and WAN0_ON means Internet LED is orange/red, WAN1_OFF and WAN0_OFF means Internet LED is off.

However, It's important to keep in mind that while the LED-related logs and status are provided, they may not always be completely accurate. Therefore, it is advisable to use them as a reference rather than relying solely on them. We encourage you to consider other indicators and information for a comprehensive understanding of your network status.

Regarding the internet dropouts issue, please help to confirm the following details:

1. When the issue happens, It will recover automatically or you have to restart the router to get internet again?

2. When the router loses internet, is there still internet access from your ISP modem? You could connect a computer to your ISP modem directly to test it.

3. Who is your ISP and what is the WAN connection type you configured on the router? like PPPoE or Dynamic IP?

4. Screenshot of the Network > Internet page when the issue happens. If there is still WAN IP address at that moment, you can mask the WAN IP and gateway info for security concerns

5. How many client devices are usually connected to the router and what are they? is there any other access point or extender in the same network?

Hi @Sunshine ,

thank for clarification with the LEDs, it was bit confusing for me.

To the questions:

Regarding the internet dropouts issue, please help to confirm the following details:

1. When the issue happens, It will recover automatically or you have to restart the router to get internet again?

Connection recovers by itself within 5-20 minutes, therefore I am not aware of most dropouts when I am not at home, not using internet. Restart does not help, it just restarts and is still down for a while (longer than usual restart).

2. When the router loses internet, is there still internet access from your ISP modem? You could connect a computer to your ISP modem directly to test it.

During the dropouts there is still internet access from the modem/antena. (problem disappears when I plug in some older zyxel router left from old provider with the same network settings).

3. Who is your ISP and what is the WAN connection type you configured on the router? like PPPoE or Dynamic IP?

My ISP is Starnet (Prague - Czech Republic). I have long distance 60GHz antena on roof with modem built in as my WAN, powered by PoE injected to the cable from router. Log on the modem does not show any drops from the uplink. All cables were changed and PoE injector was also changed for new one in attempt to narrow the cause. New cables and PoE injector did not fixed the issue. I have static IP assigned by the ISP. Same network config works fine on my older Zyxel router with no drops.

4. Screenshot of the Network > Internet page when the issue happens. If there is still WAN IP address at that moment, you can mask the WAN IP and gateway info for security concerns

I will try to catch that next time, but in general it said no connection. Not sure about the IP.

5. How many client devices are usually connected to the router and what are they? is there any other access point or extender in the same network?

2 PCs connected via ethernet, 1 Ubiquity PoE non managed switch (no DHCP, it is basicaly seethrough for the network), 1 Aruba PoE AP behind the ubiquity (setup purely in AP mode), 1 more PC plugged into ubiquity and like 5-6 wireless devicess (Yeelight bulbs, Epson printer, Miijia temparuture sensor and our phones).

PS: during last drop I unplugged everything except WAN to the antena/modem and restarted the router, the issue still persisted until the issue went aay by itself like always (10 mins)

Thanks for the information, we will wait for the screenshots when the issue happens next time, and if no issue can be located, we will escalate your case via email to senior engineer for debugging.
