Force a device to connect to a specific Deco
Force a device to connect to a specific Deco
I have to Decos, 1 on the first floor(livingroom) and one on the second floor(bedroons and office).
I'm working in my office with a Deco about 3m away from me and my macbook is connected to the one on the first floor with a 2.4ghz connection.
My phone is connected to the correct Deco though.
Is there a way for me to force my macbook to the deco on the second floor so it is connected to the 5ghz network?

Turn off 2.4GHz band for Main Network in Deco app, that should convince macbook connect over 5GHz to the nearest Deco.

@Alexandre. Thanks, I'll try this one, but I still want the 2.4ghz for the hard to reach places in my house, so I'll still need to enable it again.

if they are so close to each other, 3m or less, you can connect them both with Ethernet cable.

If second Deco is 3m away from macbook, but behind the wall or other obstacle, connecting macbook to that Deco with Ethernet cable does not make sense. If you can bring second Deco to the same room as macbook, you can connect macbook to second Deco with Ethernet cable.

Hi, Today, I got the beta firmware for Deco M4_V2_1.7.0 that supports connection preference.
Based on the version number, I think it might support other features mentioned here-Understand the Differences Among Deco Firmware Platforms about 1.7.0 but the engineers haven't provided a full release note.
I was wondering whether you might want to try this beta.
Since the version has been 1.7.0, the firmware downgrade would need to be done via firmware recovery(which requires a factory reset.)
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP I'd love that! Is there a step-by-step way to test that?
