Wired range extending causes main/host network to severely slow down

We have two floors in our home, to make the range reach upstairs we used a tp link router in Access Point Mode which caused the downstairs WiFi to slow down till 2mbps (average is 55mbps) and upstairs was perfectly fine. After a while of trying to resolve the issue, we ended up opting in for wireless extending via Range Extender Mode and although it worked, downstairs was having 50mbps and upstairs was 10-20mbps which is noticeably slower.
We are still using wireless extending but I am curious if there's any way to have wired extending while not compromising speed for the both of us
@scattagain ive just found out thatt ive gotten AP and Wireless Router mode confused, sorry about that
