Model: TL-MR6400
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: ‪1.4.0 0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 220506 Rel.57555n

My router disconnects multiple times (5-10 times) from the 4G connection per day, the ISP only has 4G, 3G or LTE is not available. It is connected to Vodafone's network, my phone is also on Vodafone and I haven't seen issues there. The "Signal Strength" is 75%, I have 2 to 3 bars out of 3 on the device.

The disconnect happens more frequently when I'm on video calls.

The router automatically reconnnects after ~1 minute. While the 4G is disconnected I can still ping the LAN interface.

Current ISP Version: 22042701

I tried setting the band manually instead of auto, did not help.

Any ideas?

  @Szparki

Multiple factors might cause the disconnect automatically. For the LTE disconnecting issue, please try the following steps for troubleshooting:

    1. If the band was changing to a different one when the internet interrupts, select a 4G LTE band(s) manually on Advanced > Network > Internet page and change the Band from "Auto" to "Manual". If your LTE router doesn't support manual band selection, you could get the beta firmware from this thread: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/241534

    2. You may try to change the Network Type on Advanced > Network > Internet page from 4G Preferred to 4G Only.

    3. Please insert the same SIM into another LTE device or even a smartphone to check if the SIM has a problem. Or just swap the SIM cards between your router and phone for comparison.

  @Sunshine than you for your reply!

1. I tried setting the band manually, no changes, I haven't upgrade the firmware yet. I found a newer firmware on this link: https://www.tp-link.com/hu/support/download/tl-mr6400/v5.3/#Firmware, Build 221121. I can try that next, I'm just slight hesitant since I don't have a backup device. Should I try ISP update first? Does ISP update contain frequency information for the internet providers?

2. Same, done it, no changes

3. I inserted the SIM in my phone, it works fine

On this link (https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/tl-mr6400/v5.3/#Firmware) I'm seeing two firmwares, I'm not sure if the top one is for my router or not. The buttom one is the same as the one alreaedy installed.

My routers current firmware and hardware is:

Firmware Version:‪1.4.0 0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 220506 Rel.57555n Hardware Version:‪TL-MR6400 v5.3 00000002

Unfortunately this didn't help sad

I noticed in the the system logs that the router is not disconnecting from the internet. However if I start two pings on my computer, one to an external IP or hostaname (1.1.1.1, google.com) and one the local one. The external one on the internet (WAN) will stop pinging but the TP-Link on the LAN port works well.

  @Szparki

Hi, please update to the latest firmware as well which is the top one you mentioned.

If the issue still happens frequently with the latest firmware, please provide the following details, we would like to escalate your case to our support engineers for debugging:

- Working mode of the router, like 3G/4G router mode or wireless router mode

- Where are you based, and who is your SIM card carrier?

- Screenshots of Advanced->Status page and Advanced->Network->Internet page when the internet works fine and also when the internet stops

- System Log file without rebooting the router

- How often does the problem happen, and how does it recover?

- When did you purchase the router, and when did the issue start to happen?

- Is the same SIM card working fine and stable on other 4G devices?

- How often does the problem happen, and how does it recover? - at least a dozen times a day, it recovers itself in about a minute

- When did you purchase the router, and when did the issue start to happen? - July 2023, it started to happen 2 weeks ago

- I tried the SIM in a phone and a battery operated hot spot, I saw no issues there

- Here are two ping results, just to show that I can ping the router while in the same time I can't ping google.com (I tried multiple destinations). I did the same from two other computers.

--- google.com ping statistics ---
67 packets transmitted, 47 packets received, 29.9% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 18.687/86.383/318.660/73.096 ms

--- 192.168.11.1 ping statistics ---
97 packets transmitted, 97 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.284/0.544/1.928/0.305 ms

  @Szparki

Hi, was the screenshot and system log got after the issue happened?

the screenshot still shows the internet status connected, if it is indeed when the internet stops working, please try to set DNS Servers manually to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on Advanced > Network > LAN Settings page.
