Since upgrading firmware to 1.6.2, there are multiple times when my connectivity drops to zero. I've confirmed that this is due to lots of packets being dropped inside the home network.

 

In trying to debug the problem, I've noticed that when the connectivity disappears, the Deco web interface shows 100% CPU Load. I have 11 or 12 clients connected to the network, most are idle, a couple are doing ~20 KB/s of upload and download.

 

It seems clear to me that the firmware upgrade is causing these huge spikes in CPU usage that aren't related to network traffic, and that this is wrecking my connectivity.

 

I've tried to downgrade the firmware, but the web interface tells me it can do upgrades only.

 

What are my options here? I can only see:

 

  1. Upgrade to the 1.7.0 beta release
  2. Live with randomly dropping Internet connectivity (no)
  3. The fine people of this forum help me out!
  4. Chuck the Deco in the bin; buy something else

If ISP provided you with the router/gateway to which Main Deco is connected, you can switch Deco to Access Point mode. This will substantially offload Main Deco. See Switching a Deco to Access Point (AP) Mode

Thanks Alexandre. I'll give that a try. It doesn't seem like a great fix, to be honest. With near-zero traffic, I'd expect the Deco to be running without problems, even in Wifi Router mode. But I'll try it as a work-around until the underlying problem can be sorted!

  @dzqz that's a weird fw version. Mine is 1.6.1 Build 20231227 Rel. 80438 and very stable

  @Bugs22 I'm on 1.6.2 Build 20240308 Rel. 55841. I don't think it's a weird firmware version - I think I've just updated and you haven't.

 

My advice would be to stay on 1.6.1 until this is fixed. I didn't have this problem on 1.6.1.

 

And I've tried on Access Point mode and found the same problem occurs.
