Model: RE330
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version: 1.0.23 Build 230418 Rel.60395n

Good afternoon.

I acquired the RE330 in August.

I need it to extend one network to be used with surveillance cameras. One of the cameras is slightly out of the range of the main router (Archer MR550) and it was connecting intermitently to the main router.

With this extender, I was genearting ONEMESH but, since the camera was not able to differenciate the device, it was conencting to the main router sometimes, leading in bad performance. Finally, and as per your recommendation, I generated a secondary network, with different SSID, and that camera is always conencted to the extender, while the extender is connected to teh main router. The main router supports other 3 cameras perfectly in hte 2.4GHz network.

After the last firmware update, for both the devices (maybe is casuality), almost one month ago, I have noticed that the 4th camera connected to the extender is lasting a lot to send the images. When I check through Tether app, it looks disconnected till I refresh the main router clients or it shows strange things:

In the extender, the camera appears always conencted to the 2.4 network, always with the IP .200

When changing to the main router, the other 3 cameras and 2 smart plugs (enchufe) are properly conencted tothe 2.4 network, always working very fine.

At the botom, it appears the extender connected through the 5GHz network of the main router, with IP .200

but when refreshing it changes to IP .108

And when refreseshing again, it jumps again to IP .200:

It is very confusing for me. When I do this refreshing, because other times the extender does not appear conencted till I do it, and I enter in teh camera´s app, it takes time but it connect to this camera, but other times it last so long that the camera appears as not connected, while I see it conencted in the app.

Is there any way to conenct the camera to the extender, fixing its IP to a fixed number, and later do the same in the main router, to assign fixed IP to the extender, to guarantee a more stable connection?

Is it better for, this map of connections to connect the extender to whatever the network decided (as it is now) or to fix it to one of the 5GHz or the 2.4GHx, to guarantee also a stable connection?

I appreciate a lot your feedback.

Thansk  lot in advance.

Best regards.

Hi  @miracle2012

You can configure Mac address reservation on the router:

Configure Address Reservation on Wi-Fi Routers

But we cannot do the same on the range extender.

However, please note that assigning a specific IP to a specific device has nothing to do with stability. In your case, I suggest you change the physical location of the camera to eliminate the problem caused by wireless interference in a fixed location.

If you are experiencing intermittent wireless connection on the range extender, please refer to the following suggestions:

1. Confirm the extender is properly located based on optimal reception and performance

2. Make sure the firmware on the extender is up-to-date.

3. Enable “High Speed” mode if you have a dual-band extender.

4. Disable Parental Control or Access Control (Blacklist/ Whitelist) on the host router if they have been enabled for the extender.

5. Turn off Band Steering (also called "Smart Connect" or "Whole-Home Wi-Fi") and set up different Wireless names for the router's 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi.

6. Fix the wireless channels on the host router, such as channel 11 for 2.4GHz and channel 48 for 5GHz.
