Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20230725 Rel. 56344(4555)

I installed the Archer AX23 v1.20 router last day. I tested the WiFi6 speed with an Intel AX211 network card. I get 480-500 Mbps when I use 5Ghz connection and I was closer to the router. I tried with Ubuntu Linux 24.04.1 (Linux 6.8.0-50-generic kernel) and Windows 11 with same result.

When I test speed with cable I get 900-950 Mbps.

If I list WiFi stations I get 270 Mbps per SSID.

If I set QoS for notebook I get slower download link (250-300 Mbps)

I connected WiFi5 devices to the same SSID. Is this restrict the full speed to the AX211?

There is no 160MHz chanel in my 5GHz setup.

In Windows 11 the connection looks like this:

How can I get full 1201 Mbps or at least 1081 Mbps download speed?

  Hi@pzoli,

When a Wi-Fi 5 device is connected to a Wi-Fi 6 router, the speed of the Wi-Fi 5 device is mainly limited by the device's own Wi-Fi 5 technology, and the speed of Wi-Fi 5 will not be directly increased to Wi-Fi 6 by connecting to a Wi-Fi 6 router.

When you use an Ethernet cable to test the router's LAN port, which is the wired speed, it is 900–950 Mbps, which is a relatively ideal speed. Because the Ethernet ports of Archer AX23 are 1× Gigabit WAN Port+4× Gigabit LAN Ports. So the ideal wired speed is also close to 1Gbps.

Generally speaking, the wireless network speed of the router is lower than the wired network speed of the router. First, the wireless network of the router is achieved by converting the wired network signal into a wireless signal.

The wireless signal speed is usually lower than the wired speed for the following reasons:

1. Transmission medium: Wired networks use physical cables to provide more stable and faster connections, while wireless signals are transmitted through the air and are limited by signal strength and interference.

2. Bandwidth sharing: Wireless networks need to share bandwidth between multiple devices. The more devices connected, the slower the speed may be.

3. Signal attenuation: With the increase of distance and the presence of obstacles, the wireless signal will attenuate, resulting in a decrease in speed.

4. Interference factors: Other wireless devices, electronic products and building structures will interfere with wireless signals.

5. Technical limitations: Although modern wireless technologies (such as Wi-Fi 6) have significantly improved speeds, it is still difficult to reach the level of wired connections.

In general, the WiFi speed of Archer AX23 is 5 GHz: 1201 Mbps (802.11ax), 2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps (802.11ax), which mainly refers to the Wi-Fi technology used by these two Wi-Fi bands and the highest negotiated speed under ideal conditions, rather than the actual speed of the router.

@Joseph-TP Thabks for the response. Somehow I get about 800 Mbps with my notebook and my WiFi6 enabled tablet at speed test. I don't know how. But last test was max 500 Mbps. Is thist randomly? How can I repeat this access speed?

Hi  @pzoli,

Do you mean the speed of the wireless connection? Since Wi-Fi connections are easily affected by environmental interference, your wireless environment may be ideal at the moment.
You can continue to observe for a while, and please feel free to contact us for any updates.

@pzoli maybe because your nearby networks, i have ax23 and 18$ cheap Fenvi ax1800 usb wifi with 1201mb link speed and 700+megabits speedtest in 4 meters behind the router. but when my  neighbor on another wifi channel and asus ax router behind THREE walls begin to download something, my speed drops to 400-450. so I think 5ghz  channel does not matter anything.
