it takes a while to load then redirects to yahoo (which isn't even my default search engine)

First of all, you need to connect your computer directly to the range extender via wireless or Ethernet cable. Then open a browser and enter http://tplinkextender.net.
It is normal to see the redirected search engine if you are connected to the main router because http://tplinkextender.net is for internal access only.If you follows the user guide and still see this page, that means you has successfully set it up and the internet is already available. No need to log into again.
