Model: RE655BE
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20241108 rel.20771

Hello,

I set the RE655BE (EU) up as AP mode.

Configured OFDMA on all bands, and MU-MIMO where possible (5 & 6). These settings can only be set on the web interface, not the app for some reason.

I set everything as Wifi7 WPA3 (or WPA2/WPA3), disabled WPS (though the AP is still signaling the WPS tag on the 2.4 and 5 bands for some reason), put bandwidth for every band to their respective maximum (40, 160, 320), and set the lowest channel on all bands.

I haven't tried EasyMesh, as I have no other EasyMesh devices. The router has wifi completely turned off, so the RE655BE is the only networking device emitting wifi in my home's network.

It's rock solid, and the signal is great even though I have a TON of neighbors and office wifi signals around me (it's a high density mixed-use apartment neighborhood).

Buuut... If I turn on MLO, even though I only have one device using it, stability breaks. It happens more often when my MLO smartphone is far away from the AP. After a while, all wifi goes offline (including non-MLO). OFDMA and MU-MIMO don't change how often it crashes. The AP is still accessible from ethernet, but no wifi available whatsoever.

When wifi was down, I logged into the AP using ethernet, and did a small test: I changed configurations on MLO, and also on different bands (because that triggers a wifi network restart), but it didn't make wifi work again. I have to reboot it to make wifi work again.

So... In summary, if you disable MLO, the RE655BE is a rock solid device.

But MLO is just a no-go for now.

Hoping that you will fix MLO sooner than later.

Cheers!

Hi@heffeque,

Thank you for contacting our community.

May I know what is the model of your clients that you use for testing.

Please collect the backup file as below and send it to the ticket case TKID250524190 that you have created:

1. Visit http://www.tplinkrepeater.net, and log in with your TP-Link ID or the password you set for the extender.

2. Go to Settings > System Tools > Backup & Restore.

  @Joseph-TP Thank you!

Yes, I have around 10-12 devices working simultaneosly without issues, but if I activate MLO, I only have one devide that supports/connects to it.

It's a Xiaomi 15 Ultra with everything updated (HyperOS 2.0.104.0.VOAEUXM on Android 15).

If I'm near the RE655BE, everything is OK, but if I go to a far away room, when I wake up in the morning all wifi is lost.

Or if I'm near my home where coverage is coming and going, it'll eventually lose all wifi connections for all devices and the RE655BE will need a reboot to be able to work again (as explained on my initial post).

I hope this information helps!

I'll send the backup file through the email.

Thank you in advance!

Edit: Quick update, just as a heads up, TP-Link's support is being very responsive. We're currently testing out a new firmware that hopefully fixes MLO instability. Cheers!

@Joseph-TP Sadly it didn't fix the issue with MLO.

I gave them further info, currently waiting for feedback. Crossing fingers that they find how to fix it (it might take time, so I'm not using MLO for now).

Cheers!

@Joseph-TP The support team completely misread one of my emails and thought that the issue was solved (I was actually indicating that there is an additional issue that I managed to solve, but thought that your support team might be interested because it could potentially lead them to find further stability issues to correct, but ultimatelly the MLO issue is still standing).

I wrote several emails to clarify this further, but I received silence since then.

I have editted my review in Amazon and will keep it at a lower rating until the MLO issue is fixed. The biggest feature of Wifi 7 over Wifi 6E is MLO support (and I paid a hefty premium to have it), so the fact that this doesn't work and no feedback is given regarding if a fix is being worked on or not... is not encouraging.
