is there an external power adapter for the WD? if so, plug it and see if it will make any difference. If you still have troubles , it's suggested to contact TP-Link support.

it is hard to tell which antenna is best. you can look for one from company who made antennas. But TP-link don't have dual band antennas, i can't find one from their website.

try another port /cable on the router/switch? is the lan light off when problem happens? Test the ports on the network.
