Same issue. They have never fixed it and I believe they will never fix it. Is there another brand anybody recommends?

This is a must have feature. I feel cheated and scammed buying C425 kit while I cannot set higher bitrate.

I wish I had done more research before buying and installing my C520WS. Never in a million years had I thought that a 1440p camera would be streaming with ~2.5 Mbps bit rate. That is half of the minimum requirement recommended for that resolution. I also went back and read the data sheet and specifications and nowhere does it mention this.

Ability to choose a custom bitrate would be a very nice addition. I have 5 C320WS's

Hardware is nice, but without being able to set bitrate the cameras fail. I understand that h265 might be a licensing issue but enable bit rate and fps settings for H264 should be in TPlink/Tapos own interest.

Just bought C320WS. This amount of compression artifacts (blockiness) is for 20 dollar cameras, not this range. Increase bitrate or allow user to specify. Stream1 & 2 didn't even break 1mbit/sec which is pathetic and turns 2K into 720p.

" 2K QHD-Records every image in crystal-clear 2560x1440 definition."

That's a blatant lie and TP-Link should be ashamed for writing it.

I'm returning this camera and not purchasing any from TP-Link until they address user bitrate selectivity.

well I have been subscribed to this thread for many years, and It looks like tp-link has ignored the users request for adjustable bitrate option, even one of the most requested features in the feature requests section, so I just want everyone to know I will no longer purchase any tp-link product in the future, for a decent camera I suggest amcrest cameras, they are rock stable and fully customizable, one is still going for 8 years, IR still works and withstands harsh winters, perfectly stable wifi as-well.

Hello TP-Link Team and fellow users, I’ve been using several Tapo cameras (currently 4 units) and while I appreciate the ease of use and setup, the video quality is significantly compromised by the limited and uncontrolled bitrate. Even with 1080p or 2K resolution, the image often looks worse than a good 720p camera using a higher and stable bitrate. The current VBR implementation results in blocky video during motion and poor clarity in night scenes or detailed areas. Many users have requested — for months or even years — the ability to manually control the bitrate and optionally switch to a constant bitrate (CBR) mode. This is a **critical feature** for users who need higher video clarity, especially when using RTSP streams for recording or live monitoring. Please consider adding: - Manual bitrate selection (including higher bitrate options), - Ability to switch between VBR and CBR modes. Your users would deeply appreciate it. I’m ready to recommend Tapo to more people, but right now this issue is holding me (and many others) back. Thank you for listening and improving!
