Model: KE100 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 2.7.0

I updated to the latest firmware the other day after receiving a notification to do so. Since then, both KE100's make a grinding noise when closing the valve after heating to the desired temperature. On the previous version of firmware this did not happen, the closing (and opening) noise was the normal electronic hum sound.

Note: I've tried recalibrating and the grinding noise when closing persists on both units.

  @Markirl @butty @Vinsub

Can you guys clarify when this problem occurs exactly? Is it after using the App to turn off KE100?

Or did the noise appear during the KE100's auto temperature adjustment (Smart Control/Schedule)?

It will be helpful if you can share a video here. <Upload it to a cloud drive and share a link here, like Google drive, iCloud, or YouTube.>

  @Wayne-TP The problem occurs when the valves close it self, if i touch power off in app or if the temperature is too high.

This is on clone, after i calibrate it

  @Markirl Same for me. I have 10 valves and they all grind on closing. I've tried running Calibration but no different.

@Kasa @Tapo please sort this out, it can't be doing the valves any good.

  @Markirl same on my side. I didn't make the link with firmware update but now I realised that it might be linked as it was updated 1-2 weeks ago.

So far I noticed 2 out 8 valves making this noise.

  @Wayne-TP Hi Wayne, the actuators now make a different crunchy noise when closing after the initial whir-buss that they have made from when first installed, on opening the the the sound is same although lumpy

I dont use a schedule but do use night mode

not sure how the actuator is driven but guessing could be component failure, cog worm drive?

  @Wayne-TP

The noise happens when the unit is shutting off the radiator valve after hitting a set temperature. In my case, I have the units set to turn off the heat to the radiator once the room temperature hits 20° (paired with a T315 sensor). It doesn't matter if I use the app or manually turn it off.

Maybe a good way to check if it's just the new software that's causing the issue might be to offer a rollback to the previous version of the SW and we can test if the noise persists.

Agree with @Markirl  Can we get a rollback on the Firmware please? I have removed all KE100 and reverted to my old manual TRVs as one of my radiator valves now has a bent pin and will not close properly.

  @Wayne-TP

I've just tried an experiment. I removed the unit from the radiator and tested it opening and closing - The good news is there's no grinding noise so the issue must be firmware related (see video below).

I think what might be happening is that, even when calibrated, the new firmware is allowing the unit to continue to push against the radiator pin after it has closed it. So the noise is the unit continuing to push against a closed pin briefly for a second or two.

See HERE for video of the above
