KE100 - Grinding noise on close after latest software update
I updated to the latest firmware the other day after receiving a notification to do so. Since then, both KE100's make a grinding noise when closing the valve after heating to the desired temperature. On the previous version of firmware this did not happen, the closing (and opening) noise was the normal electronic hum sound.
Note: I've tried recalibrating and the grinding noise when closing persists on both units.

Same issue here, all 3 valves making grinding sound when closing. Pretty poor that a firmware update is pushed that could be damaging people's valves. Surely someone must have tested it on a real radiator before sending it out? Who will be liable if they break due to this?
Official fix needed asap!

New firmware 2.8.0 released right now.
After updating it seems that the issue is solved.
There was no note or any details about this firmware.

I'm still on 2.7.0 despite sending my TP-Link account details to get the update.
Probably going to box them up and send all 10 back to Amazon in the morning along with all the temperature and humidity sensors I bought to control them. I'm losing faith and cannot afford to get the plumber back to replace more bent pins on radiators. I''l stick with my old dumb TRVs.

Hi all,
I've tested this morning with the new firmware 2.8.0 and both of my units appear to be working correctly with no noise when closing the valve. I'll monitor over the next week to ensure they are actually closing off or allowing heat to the radiator at the correct temperatures (mine are synced to T315's so fairly accurate).
One thing, I had my units off the radiators when I updated the first unit's firmware and I didn't realise it would re-calibrate automatically after updating. So best to have the units on your rads before doing the update - it's not a big deal, you can just recalibrate once you put them on but the unit does get confused otherwise, constantly trying to recalibrate if it's off the rad immediately after a firmware update.
@Wayne-TP Thanks for providing the beta firmware to test. Can you let us know if anything else was changed with the firmware other than fixing the noise on closing the rad valve? i.e. do we need to monitor any other unintended consequences with the app or unit with this new firmware?
