The P110M has got the Matter 1.3 certification and it indeed includes the power and energy clusters. The firmware update will arrive eventually, hopefully sooner than later!

This is the CSA official site: https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/smart-wi-fi-power-strip-8/

Do not mind the title "power strip", the Product ID is 0x0108 which is the ID of the P110M.

It is still one of the very few brands to have Matter 1.3 certified smart plugs.

  @lovely2 I absolutely understand you and I am in the same boat.
I absolutely don't want to defend TP-Links behaviour. What I am trying to say is that there seems to be a loophole in the Matter certification.
TP-Link got the certification at a time Matter did not support the energy monitoring. From that moment on thei are officially Matter compatible and they can advertise that.
Now Matter supports energy monitoring but unfortunately that does not mean, that the certification is now invalid.
I don't even know if for a Matter certification a full compatibility is needed or if I get a certification as soon as a singel feature is Matter compatible.

>This does leave a slightly sour taste in my mouth, in what is otherwise positive expericences with tp-link products.

Absolutely. Especially how they handle this request makes me think if I want to choose TP-Link for other devices in future.
I am okay with waiting for an update especially if a certification is needed but at least a little bit of communication would be nice...

  @Springrbua I disagree, the product was solid as a matter compatible energy meter smart plug, an average user would consider that would mean that energy meter functionality to be compatible with matter. A user should not need to understand that at the time of original product launch the matter protocol didn't support energy meters. And since the product is still be sold, and still being advertised as a matter compatible energy meter smart plug then it should support what it is advertising.

I bought mine yesterday, and well i'm happy with installing the tp-link intergration, i'm a little anonyed that i paid 5 dollars per plug more to get matter, and it doesn't support the functionality i wanted. And when i bought it matter did support energy meters (not that matters, what is advertised matters), so i was solid a defective product that doesn't meet it's advertised functionality.

This does leave a slightly sour taste in my mouth, in what is otherwise positive expericences with tp-link products.

I also tried to message the support to get an update on the current state.
The first reply was the exact same answer as from @Wayne-TP in the first post, just in german in my case.
I answered that Home Assistant already supports Matter 1.3 and that I would like to know the current state of the Matter update.
The answer was, that I can integrate Tapo and Kasa in third party applications using the API but it has some risks and they don't officially support Home Assistant so if any problem occurs, I have to ask in the Home Assistant forum.
That said, TP-Link support does not like to answer to my actual question but instead they shift responsibilities to others.
I like the TP-Link devices I've used so far but the support seems really bad so far...

  @Cammm

I agree that there should be a note that energy monitoring with Matter is not supported yet and I agree that "Matter" and "energy monitoring" are way to close together on the webpage and this is deceptive marketing for me as well.

What I don't agree with is just this sentence:
>  it's taken that long to get certification for something which was already promised prior to customers purchasing?

Certification take some time for sure, the implementation takes some time as well and implementing a free update will definitely not have the highest priority in their development team. Also, there was nothing promised, since Matter did simply not (officially) support energy monitoring at the time the product was certified. So the product was certified and they are allowed to use the logo what they obviously do.

> Don't forget that Matter 1.3 didn't actually stop others from releasing energy monitor support

But they don't have to to get the certification. It is cool that some companies took that extra step to provide the consumers some usefull features but most companies don't do that. In the end they want profit and all they need for that is the certification so that they can add the fancy logo on their product.

I think the problem is that a product can be Matter certified without supporting all of the (future) features of the standard, but that is something that has to be solved in the certification process. If not, there will always be Matter certified devices that only support a few things with Matter and require cloud or manufacturer app for other things.

At least we have the information that the product is certified so lets hope the update rolls out soon.

  @Springrbua "While I am also waiting for the update and very dissapointed by the lack of communication, I think that this statement is a little unfair."

How is it unfair?

  • TP-Link make a big deal out of matter support on their marketing for this, if you look at the official website - atleast 20% of the page layout is dedicated to matter, because matter is the differentiator between this and the P110 - you pay more for the M. So whilst you call out that it's not a big deal - TP-Link certainly things it's a big deal to a) charge more for it, and b) make it a big part of their marketing.
  • There are no call outs anywhere that Matter is not supported for the energy monitor - you shouldn't need to know the matter specifications. I don't know about you, but I don't read specifications every time I pick up a box from the shelf. I don't think any reasonable person does.
  • This is explicitly marketed as an energy monitor
  • Don't forget that Matter 1.3 didn't actually stop others from releasing energy monitor support - Eve had support for their devices even without the matter 1.3 spec.
  • Any reasonable person would think that all of the above makes for deceptive marketing

  @MoleCamper It would be the same, if Android Auto doesn't support playing music. I don't have a car with Android myself but I recently watched a video where they said, that most manufacturers don't support the latest Android Auto version as they don't want to give all control to them. So if thats true, you essentially have the exact same issue there.

  @Springrbua

No sorry. There's are no "ZigBee energy monitoring" plugs that require you to download an app and the energy monitoring only works on wifi. Or maybe a "wifi enabled plug" that tells you the status but doesn't allow control. The whole point of matter is to normalise the ecosystem. This isn't a "matter plug". It's advertised as energy monitoring. It's akin to buying a car with android auto but finding out in only works for maps and you can't play music

I understand that and from a users point of view this is really annoying. But form a producers point of view, the product was fully Matter compatible at that time. Adding a "Note: Energy monitoring does not work with Matter" is probably not something that increases the sales. So again, that is, in my opinion a problem with the Matter standard or certification process. They should probably require the manufacturers to bring relevant updates for a certain amount of time, so that I as a user can expect the devices to support new features as soon as they are part of the standard. So again, I am not trying to protect them but if the update comes in the next few month, the time it took is in my opionion still ok. What I don't like is the lack of communication especially in this thread

  @Springrbua

I guess the biggest issue is the product packaging didn't differentiate that the power monitoring was only on WiFi.

if you are heavily invested in matter than you may have known that matter did not support PM at the time, but for those who didn't, they aren't exactly going to be happy with such a long wait.

However, I've experienced the same TP Link garbage with DECO routers. Despite the biggest request being for a web UI, they ignore it and don't even acknowledge the posters anymore.

No more TPLink for me...
