Tapo P110M update for Matter 1.3
With the new matter 1.3 support being released containing support for energy monitoring devices like the P110M, when will we see the firmware update support for the new matter standard? I assume that it is planned.
The current matter firmware for the P110M doesn't account for the new 1.3 standard. The P110M being advertised as both an energy monitoring device and matter compatible, there's a huge gap here at the moment because without the new matter standard update; the P110M is just a smart relay.

The expected time between a new spec release and devices implementing it is 6-12 months, so as much as we wanted the feature the same day the spec released, the market just doesn't move that fast, not even in brands specialized in Matter.
I personally was more looking for *any* kind of response from TP-Link that this new firmware for Matter 1.3 Spec Power monitoring would be even released. Based on the response from tplink support and an absence of anything from them in this thread we can't be 100% sure that this will even happen.
I (and am sure many others) would buy more of these if we could get something official from tplink saying that this is in the pipeline (would even be nicer if we could help beta test (which I have offered).

@MarkCarline Absolutely, first reply is actually from TP-Link saying it takes time and stay tuned so that means they have nothing else to share.
My recommendation as always is buying things for the features they have at purchase time and not for promises or roadmaps, those change everytime.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm expecting the Matter 1.3 update of the P110M I got back when Matter 1.0 didn't support it. But, if I were to buy a Matter smart plug now I would wait for one supporting Matter 1.3 (and implementing it correctly, if it's going to report the reading every minute it's useless for some automations, a good smart plug should notify of significant power changes instantly).

Bought this energy monitor thinking it supported Matter. It doesn't. So I ended up here.
Add me to this list of complainers.
We can return them for a refund at least.

@matter13 - no ETA from tp-link at all. Not even a confirmation that it will even happen. 😢

any updates?
We are now up to matter 1.4 spec.
I own some KP125M plugs but am awaiting to see some sort of commitment to implementing spec updates, at least where feature parity is involved, before getting more.

Since the CSA Alliance released the Matter 1.3 standard in May 2024, TP-Link has been actively developing and certifying multiple Tapo models for Matter 1.3 functionality. As this is a new standard framework, adaptation will take some time. If all goes smoothly, we anticipate releasing firmware that supports Matter 1.3 by the end of 2024.
Of course, the implementation of various features under the Matter 1.3 standard requires both Matter devices and Matter platforms to be fully adapted. Based on the information we currently have, there is no platform that supports energy monitoring functionality under the Matter 1.3 standard yet.
We have noticed that some users have mentioned that Home Assistant now supports Matter 1.3. However, as we have learned, Home Assistant has only upgraded to the Matter 1.3 SDK development framework, which allows other developers to create Matter 1.3 functionalities on the platform. They've not yet implemented the specific plug power monitoring feature included in the Matter 1.3 standard. The new device types and advanced features defined in the Matter 1.3 standard will need to be gradually adapted based on demand.

@Wayne-TP There are at least two platforms with energy support in Matter 1.3. Both SmartThings and Home Assistant support smart plugs with Matter 1.3 energy reporting.
Support was released in early October for both platforms, and I mean full support for the end user, not just the API in ST or the server in HA.

@Wayne-TP Thanks so much for this response. There is a thread over on the HA forum I have linked / quoted what you said so somebody over there might be able to chime in and comment on what is needed on the HA side of things.

btw - If you ever need beta testers I would love to help out, I now have around 35x of these devices now (they are great!) and I am sure I could allocate a few for testing.
